Are there any must have applications for your machine at home that are very useful and you cannot do without.

I am really looking for some shareware/free apps?

winzip, winrar, adaware, spybot, anydvd, windows media player classic, k-lite codec pack, nero, irfanview etc etc, thats about the ones that i use the most on my pc

PhotoFiltre, a great photo editing suite that's free
OpenOffice.org, a well-known office-suite
WinAmp, music-player
Free Download Manager, an excellent utility with scheduling, download-grouping, password maangement, etc.

WinKey. I hate searching/traversing the windows start menu. Just assign keyboard shortcuts to your commonly used apps.

Freedownloadmanager is heartily recommended by me.

1. It integrates with Firefox 2 and IE6 (dunno about 7), so any download link you click on is moved automatically over to FDM.
2. You have the ability to provide feedback on the download, whether it was malicious or not, or your rating of the download.

It does not take up lots of resources, and you can throttle downloads individually, or as a group.

It also have the ability to act as an HTML spider, so if you're on a crummy dial-up link, you can "suck up" an entire Web site overnight, for leisurely perusal offline (or downloading other stuff). - This is what I did with www.zapinspace.com - the link was just too slow, so I sucked it up overnight, and the next day browsed the comics leisurely without having to wait for the comics to be downloaded... :D

Irfanview is also a "must-have"...

*deep breath* Bit Defender, Ad-aware, Spybot, AOL Active Security Monitor, WinRar or IZArc, K - Lite Codec Pack, Nero, Winamp, Fraps, uTorrent, Adobe Reader, O&O Defrag, Hamachi, Google Talk, MSN, Media Player Classic, DVD Decrypter and ofcourse Maxthon Browser.

I have more, but these are the most used Apps I have.:D

I know, man...was making a joke. TuneUp is a cool registry cleaner, but its not free...it is for 30days I think.

If you got a dual core amd and xp then you must get dual core hotfix for xp :) I simply cant play DOTA without it  Its easy to find just google it
