Throttled.jpg

This is exactly what it says...

I am a first time customer with mweb. I was explained how the Throttling works on standard 2mbps uncapped package. It was clearly said 70GB. now two weeks after activation I am on 37.55GB. Having to update all steam origin and uplay games.

When phoning tech support I was told "because of you being first time customer the system saw you were going to reach cap before the end of the month so that is why you are throttled"

WTF people. Its like I'm going to quit my job because I know im going to die tommorow. How can they tell you 70gb and then decide no its not going to last. By all means if I reach 70 gb thats fine (although 70gb is also BS)

Im quoting from MWEB's Code of Conduct site (http://www.mweb.co.za/legalpolicies/GeneralPage/EnglishCodeofConduct.aspx)

1. Key Commitments

MWEB will:-

1.1 act in a fair, reasonable and responsible manner in all its dealings with its subscribers and potential subscribers;

1.2 ensure that all services and products meet the specifications contained in MWEB's licences and in all relevant laws and regulations;

1.3 not unfairly discriminate against or between its subscribers and potential subscribers on the basis of race, gender, sex, age, religion, belief, disability, ethnic background or sexual orientation;

1.4 display utmost courtesy and care when dealing with its subscribers;

1.5 provide its subscribers and potential subscribers with information regarding services and pricing;

1.6 upon request provide its subscribers and potential subscribers with guidance in regard to their customer needs;

1.7 keep its subscribers' personal information confidential; and

1.8 advise its subscribers to refer a complaint to the Authority, where MWEB has failed to resolve the complaint to the satisfaction of a subscriber.

So by throttling me before 70gb as was agreed when signing contract they have already broke "1.1" and "1.2".

Will be leaving tomorrow if I phone again and dont get a resolution. Utterly disgusted after two weeks :mad:

I think so too. am I being stupid to say thats complete BS what they did after 2 weeks? There must be something in the Consumer act to hurt them before I leave???

Wow, so much loyalty towards the customer, punishing new customers... this is unethical, they are choosing your options, based on their own assumptions.

It;s because the throttling works on a 30day window. Since you haven't been with the company for 30days they need to predict your usage.

So according to the customer...

They told him 70GB per month until throttled, he naturally agreed to this when he signed up. Two weeks (14 days) later he accumulated 37.55GB which would then be predicted as 75.1GB (5.1GB over the threshold) over the month by Mweb. The customer however under his own understanding had 32,45GB to go until the month end which he could allocate to his own usage allowance, but Mweb made his decision and assumed that he will be an abuser and then ultimately throttled and shaped him.

Now since Mweb do not have any statistics on the customer’s usage patterns, how can they predict him as a abuser at 37.55GB (when stating to him 70GB), now since he is being throttled at this threshold, how will they predict the 2nd month, again on 37.55GB, how else or do they want him to lessen his usage each month?

Explain this to me, do the sum...

Well they won't need to predict the 2nd as there will be a 1month history.

Based on 37.55 / 70, so he will be "managed" at every 50% usage?

Nope, as that's not the threshold.

I think you overthinking this.

But anyway it's all moot as MWEB seems to have sorted the guy out.

Uhm, but he was throttled way below 70GB in the 1st month, quite clearly Mweb is the one over-thinking their policies. This case may be moot, but do they throttle other new users within their 1st month at 50% usage entailing Mweb's believed thresholds.

Yes, but then then the second month it won't happen as they will have an actual history to work with.
