Hi everyone

I am with Mweb 4mbps uncapped, usually I get 45ms ping, but randomly while in a call of duty game my ping will jump to 500-600ms and will fluctuate around there for hours before it comes back down to 45ms ping. I honestly dont understand this, I phoned Mweb technical support and they can't help me.

I cant keep paying R900 a month with this lack of quality in my connection.

Heres my speedtest.net test.

and on pingtest.net,

The funny thing is, even if Im connected to the mweb black ops server, I get the same ping.
And this is a 4mbps connection, doesnt add up.
If you have any ideas about this please help, Im out of options now.
Thanx

your line could be fooked, please post your lien status and snr noise margain here, my 512kps line mweb, was 40ms on blackops yesterday

The help desk should have given you instructions as to how to confgure your ADSL modem. If its a standard (MWeb) Billion one, you should be able to find examples on this forum.

Some exchanges in Cape Town have had very bad latency recently. Your problem may be one of these exchanges, or just temporary congestion:

The simplest step is to run a tracert (in a command box) to mweb.co.za, then to mybroadband.co.za. This will at least begin to indentify if the problem is local (exchange), or ISP related.

No, I only have one account, but is there anyway I can get an mweb guy to see to this, I cant keep phoning and wasting airtime on 30min calls waiting for the machine to put me through.

I am also pretty disappointed in the download speeds, i mean HTTP and torrent downloads are at a max of +-51kbps. Thats equivalent to 384kbps connection.

More like a 512 line but anyhow, go buy a prepaid gb of data from somewhere and use it to make sure it is not your line/exchange.

No point wasting airtime and your time only to find your exchange or line is actually at fault. Not saying mweb is not the problem but i also phoned mweb and moaned about my ping when it was my exchange and it took 4 months for telkom to upgrade it.

Hi -ariOn-

Please PM me your MWEB account details so that we can investigate for possible congestion on your line.

Kind regards

MWEB 4MB Uncapped

Similar poor experience here, been running it for a week and am seriously considering cancelling. Get decent, if erratic http download speeds. Torrents went from 60k/s during the week (nights) to 3-8k/s so far this evening. Checked router conenction stats, line synced at 8911 downstream and 1019 upstream. No packet drops or loss.

I understand that P2P gets shaped, but selling a 4MB line and allowing 3-6K P2P might be taking the joke a bit far  Please tell me there is an issue that I am not aware of? Century City area, Cape Town.

@krusty, I see afrihost is giving out those 1GB free accounts. I usually switch from one ISP to another to check if the problem lies either with the ISP or congestion at the exchange. That way at least you got some idea who to call. ISP or Telkom...
