I moved over to MWEB from Axxess on Tuesday night and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

On Tuesday night I was getting BLISTERING speeds at almost 400k/s and fantastic pings in World of Warcraft, running at 350ms the whole night.

Last night, however, was a completely different story... :(

I could barely manage 40k/s for longer than five minutes and my pings in WoW skyrocketed so badly that I had to stop playing :(

Did anyone else in the Randpark Ridge area in Randburg have problems last night? I'm getting so tired of fighting to have a decent connection... *sigh*

I have had same issues, but I live in Fourways. I spoke to an MWeb techie (Who in my humble opinion is not an expert) and he informed me that if there is no bandwidth then browsing and download experience will be slow, and that was that...So now I am looking for a new provider...

It's really a pitty with your WoW latency, but as far as downloads are concerned- you didn't really mention what you were downloading, so I'm going to assume it's from sites and ports that are shaped.

I need to say that I don't think WoW is being shaped, because connections from 4mbps uncapped Mweb to our WoW server in AZ, USA gives about 390-410ms.

Torrents, Rapidshare, and so on are shaped by Mweb. Even though that's pretty frustrating, there are ways around it, which will allow full speed downloads for P2P. And that'll work out so much cheaper than getting unshaped uncapped.

LOL! Tak about stating the obvious!

I just don't understand how it can go from being freakin' mindblowingly amazing the one night, to slow as snail *beep* the next... :(

It was a normal HTTP download that I did just to check the speed after I noticed that browsing was sluggish. The night before last my latency was fantastic but last night it started out okay and then at some point during the night, it went belly up, so I'm not sure what's going on, it's SO frustrating.

I was on cloud nine on Tuesday night and really really impressed with the MWEB connection... last night reminded me of the problems I had with Axxess though :(

Yak can you do a ping test to games.saix.net for me please.

You connect through the bromhof exchange right? The one across from rhema?

There you go! Finally some service that I like to see, was giving up hope when I was replying to a thread here with another company giving unstable service and excuses.

Nope, I connect to Frangiphani, just down the road from us. Unfortunately I'm at work at the moment, so I can't do the ping :(

I was very very impressed with MWEB's customer service on Tuesday. I sent a note on their site that I'm interested in their service and within five minutes someone phoned me. 10 minutes later I was set up and got my username in a mail. The connection itself, like I mentioned, was FLYING on Tuesday night and I was skipping around the house singing MWEB's praises (okay, there wasn't any skipping, but you get the idea :P).

So you can imagine my dissapointment when I was back to square one last night :(

Welcome to Planet Mweb.

Now you'll be lucky if its even working this weekend ;)

Hi TheYak

Have you received any feedback from the MWEB guys, have you sent your details? What answers did they give you if you did get in touch with one of the specialist's? :wtf:

No contact yet. I sent an email and PMed my details to them. Nothing yet.

*sigh* Not a good start... :(

Not a good sign... I moved from telkom internet on monday after my 5gig was capped - i just couldnt take this **** of capping one while you still busy downloading... and then the local bandwidth of 30 gig doesnt allow you to do jack!

Anyways, i signed up, got my username and password, and all seemed ok.
but where i could download at 150-250 kbps, it seems that has gone down to like 40-50kbps.

Paying a fortune for a 4meg line, and bandwidth and this is the result. Im rather disappointed in the results and can kick myself for making the switch. I would rather be capped with much faster dl speeds than uncapped with a snails pace...

Why does it seem that these companies are all just racking in the bucks with little return to the consumer... I understand the dynamics and all, but even after hours on a episode that more than a 1000 seeders, how can it download at 40kbps on a 4meg line?

Very disappointed Mweb... i might give you my 30 days notice soon...:(

Hi TheYak

I have been informed that our specialist has been trying to get hold of you, he left a voice mail for you.
Would you like me to have them contact you now or this evening when you would be in front of your computer?

I see you still taking a stab at TRL Technologies in this thread too, its a real shame. But let's not create another debate about it here and derail the thread.

I couldn't take the call when it came through and saw/heard the voice message. It'd probably be better to phone me this afternoon yes, so I can do speed tests etc. Any time after 16:30. Thanks!

TheYak

please post the results as to how everything was handled once you are done with MWEB.

I'll take it that you are referring to your little rant on the TRLTech thread?

My apologies for derailing the thread.
