MWEB Business wireless network switch-off

Makes sense for MWEB to switch off WiFi - and rather focus on fixed-line. I hope ICASA don't screw up LTE like they did Wimax.

Sucks to see the wifi access get canned. While it will mean less noise for WUG users and WISP's, it could be really usefull (and cost effective) for companies where exchanges are choc'o'block full or required reduncancy.

SOBs just cut us off aswell... :-(
we have a leased line solution with MWEB, going out via microwave wireless from here, and they just decided to disconnect, no warning, no notice.... 3days already no internet... bad for a business, at least have voda as backup, but of course, its costly which has to be paid extra
we've been planning to move away from MWeb, coz of crap service...
now they validated the decision :-)

but on topic :-) I'm sure there were many guys using the wifi service in restaurants etc, who now has to find a new provider

Hi Andre,
Thanx for contacting... I sent u PM with details.... unfortunately I have to disagree... its now 3 days since being disconnected, no reason, no warning or notice, and still no news, so tomorrow will most likely be no different... so for a business being without expensive paid-for internet, right before month-end, u can understand that by now we are feeling a tad foul towards our ISP :-)
I contacted MWEB Biz tech support on Monday morning, as usual when there's a drop in connection, waiting for feedback as they follow up, and have (only on Tuesday) just been told our link disconnected, but up to now, still no reason why, and still not a word of feedback from the "Accounts Manager" contact person.
Not nice that it takes a person to mouth off in public to get a reaction?
We've been with MWEB as business ISP since the 90's, from the days of Icon and Tiscali (still have some icon and tiscali accounts running :) )and there used to be really excellent service
which has really gone down in recent years.

But, back about the wireless services ending... it is a pity that MWEB has not persued wireless service. We're a smallish manufacturing, retail and vegenetics research company in an area where there is no cable, so wireless is the only way to get onto the internet. We've reached the speed limit of what microwave can offer, and need faster than the 2Mbps that we can get from the microwave leased line. Mweb's only option they could offer for 4Mbps is 2x 2Mbps microwave leased line, which becomes quite costly... especially if we need faster again, like 8Mbps.
So now, after many many years, this year, mainly because there is not a good faster wireless solution, we've been forced to drop MWeb as the company biz internet supply. Our acc was only about R240K per yr, so quite small in biz terms, but if there was a wireless option with Mweb, we would've probly stayed with Mweb for another 15odd years :-)
I would think there may be many other companies who, would prefer a good wireless solution over a cable thing that relies on Telkom?
But, as they say, stick to your core biz.
