MWEB details 10Gbps ADSL network upgrade

An article like this makes me happy :)

Someone out there is actually working and has something to show for it. What a nice change.
 
Been using Mweb for a year, no complaints. Just don't know what the fuss is about my torrents have been coming down during peak hours at over 300K/bs for months.

Unfortunately in playground terms the bitorrent protocol is very definitely the class bully and we really have to give this a lower priority to ensure the best possible treatment for services like gaming and voice and video.

A lot of hard work and research from our network engineers has gone into making the traffic prioritization rules as robust as possible and it's an area that we will always keep a close eye on to ensure that everyone has a great experience.

As uchoose pointed out even though bittorrent has a lower prioritization torrent speeds are generally quite good - a lot depends on the time of the day and the quality of the download :)

In terms of your concerns about the news servers please drop MWEB Guy a PM with your details and some further explanation of the problem you're having and we'll look into it.

Prices would be far lower, speeds would be far faster, and everyone would STILL moan because "In Korea you can get 1gbit internet for $3.99" :)

Actually, over the weekend my Openweb gold uncapped 4mbps ran at "up to" 95Kb/s
At times it was so bad that I could not even browse websites. :(

I was speaking to someone this weekend who has just gone from Openweb Gold to Webafrica; he said the OW gold was a strange beast. It'd work great for a while, and then suddenly sucked, and if you complained, OW would give you another account - the strange thing was, the accounts were with different providers (Altech and IS iirc) ... so it sounds like they sell you a cheap account, hoping it'll suit you, and if you moan, click you over to one with less profit margin.

Now I know why they don't advertise what backbones their accounts are on :)

I've seen that happen when going from one Vodacom Business account to another Vodacom Business account. I switched back to the "good" account within minutes and my speeds immediately went up. Now that good account went bad this weekend. I should probably just switch ISP's. So, MWeb or WebAfrica? :p

Even though I'm a happy Mweb customer, I'd probably suggest WebAfrica right now - easier to sign up and cancel. Mweb's still a little bit of a schlepp to do that - it's really the only part of their service that I think lags the competition - so if WebAfrica works out for you, you'd have saved yourself a lot of pain and anguish :)

I just left WebAfrica on a RedAfrica account, for a a 4mbps MWEB uncapped account. So far so good. But then again, I've only been using it for less than a week.

Sorry to hear that:( There are just one or two people on the forum that always go off about how MWeb and pretty much everyone else sucks and how Openweb are the best no matter what and Openweb doesn't shape, throttle or contend...

That is quite interesting, clever I suppose.

@ mouse, strange regarding that Vodacom Business account issue you mentioned:confused: you would think they only have one setup.

On another note Afrihost are really not fun to deal with now that they are doing @is.afrihost.co.za accounts, I just did the month notice on 30 Nov, the account went down on 1 Dec and despite a number of calls to Afrihost (who keep promising to call back - no calls yet:mad:) nothing has changed. Can't tell if it is them or Afrihost or the combination, but either way pretty rubbish service.

As mentioned in another post I also directly compared MWEB and Afrihost on the same line and MWEB was much faster.
