Mweb email

MWEB offers a function that is supposed to block individual addresses - rather like the one on this forum. The address is not changing.

You clearly have no idea on how spam filtering/smtp mails work.
Is called spoofing - I can send a mail to you and make it appear from [email protected] but its actually sent from [email protected]

As its a spoofed address blocking [email protected] won't block the email. You would need to blacklist [email protected]. But if you do that the next spam you get from them will just be from [email protected]

It's the same identical address all the time. It's a subscription the previous owner had, like his club membership, flat owner's society and other things. It has nothing to do with normal spam class mail.

Have you had a look at the email headers to double check this its the same address? If its the same all the time then Mweb should be able to block it. Have you tried to use any spam filtering software - mailwasher is pretty good.

MWEB's response was to suggest an update to Internet Explorer (seriously)

- and yes, the headers were identical. These were things like gym membership, Discovery card and so on.

Gmail is 100 times better at handling spam.

If you have a 100% reliable spam-solution, I'm sure we'd all be interested to hear about it.

it's called good practice and little bit of common sense imho. get yourself a <guid>@<isp/place>.<com/co/whatever>. then don't use that, rather make aliases from it and use those carefully for friends/family/private/business. if one of those 4 get compromised then you just remove the alias and get a new one. for the rest i just use a "spam" email address. doing this for years and i have very little if nothing at all spam in the real emails apart from my "spam" email i used for rest of sites etc etc.

Yeah. Use some throw-away/SPAM email address when filling in online forms, etc.. Don't ever use you actual email address or even your ISP email address for online forms.

Fail.

I give them my gmail address BECAUSE I know I can manage the SPAM. Cellphone numbers are a different story.
