MWEB Gaming Feedback

Hi Guys

Just some feedback on a couple of the recent issues raised here:

We've made some tweaks to the prioritization on League of Legends traffic - please let us know if your experience has improved.

The Gamezone team are re-running traffic captures on both World of Tanks and DC Universe to see if there is anything we've missed here. Also note that DC Universe went a little crazy in terms of user uptake when it went over to Free2play so there may be some teething issues there with the influx of new users. We'll let you know when we have some feedback from our testing.

I saw some mentions of high local latency. Thanks to hereticangel for chipping in there with a spot on response - those do sound like congested exchange issues. If you are experiencing this please drop MWEB Guy a PM with your details and some ping and tracert examples and we'll arrange for a congestion check for you and get some feedback from Telkom on the situation.

Cheers
Will

Hi Kenny

I posted a response on the thread linked to the article - trust that will clarify things.

World of Tanks is definitely covered in gaming optimization. I think when it comes to that type of Game netcode is a big factor in determining how playable it is internationally. Pings of 220-280 are well within acceptable ranges.

Thank you Will for your response, although I do not agree that pings of 220-280 are within acceptable ranges, World of Tanks is not really enjoyable with such pings.

To All: Can anyone comment whether pings of 220-280 are acceptable for World of Tanks and similar games? maybe its just me and something is wrong on my side, something that makes it difficult to play with such pings?

Honestly it is an international game, the pings are playable, to expect better is a hard ask. What is a problem is if you ping fluxuates too heavily, in otherwords, one second it is 220 then 260, then back down to 230 and then up again to 280...
If it stays a constant 280, that is better than having fluxuations, even if they are lower. A stable ping is what you want to play international online.
My ping to WoT is between 290 and 340 depending on the time of day or night. The game is playable, but if I see the ping jumping like a yo-yo I do not even bother playing.

Now let's talk battlefield 3, why the hell will my connections to SGS be better than Mweb gamezone? We are talking a difference of 40 ping here? No wonder no one is using gamezone servers.
Lets hope your planned matainance this weekend sorts out your problems because for the life of me I cannot understand how Mweb hosting a game and SGS hosting a game can produce such widely different pings?

Depends on where you live, and where the servers are located.

My WTFast Sub ran out and I am not getting a reply from the gamemaster with a new key?

Hi Commander Jaco,

Could you please PM me your MWEB account details.
I will then drop a mail to the gamesmaster and ask him to contact you.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

Okay let me get this straight, I can connect to an SGS server with a latency of 60 to 80 and the best i can do when connecting to Mweb hosted server is 150 to 200?
Seriously, have Mweb hosted the servers overseas? :erm:

Hi SHVAK

No that doesn't sound right. We have servers hosted in both our JHB and CPT data centres and I can assure you that they are seeing plenty of action. There were some teething problems initially until the servers were patched up, but we have seen almost nothing in terms of complaints on the latency front in the last few weeks so I'm quite surprised to see your feedback.

I have been playing the game a lot myself and I generally see pings ranging between 7 and 20ms being reported for the MWEB servers.

Please can you give us some more detail about where you are and possibly PM MWEB Guy your account details so we can take a look at the general quality of your connection.

Cheers
Will

@ Will@MWEB
I play League of Legends and my ping is low however the game is unplayable because it keeps on freezes. Sometimes it is fine during day and sometimes it feels like mweb just puts heavy shaping. this has been hapaning only for the last 3 days. When i use my other ISP accounts the game works perfectly fine but with mweb no luck. I have posted this on gamezone forum but i havent had any feeback for few days. furthermore im not the only one who is having the same issue

Hi Detka

I've just chatted to the Gamezone team now and they are aware of the League of Legends problems being experienced. Some fixes for this have already been implemented, but it seems they were not 100% successful. They will be rechecking the traffic captures with our network engineers to see if further optimization can be done on this.

Please keep an eye on the Gamezone discussion regarding this as I'm sure they will post an update as soon as there is progress.

Alternatively check in with MWEB Guy and he will pester them for some feedback for you :)

Kind Regards
Will

The MWEB Shuffle has started again, since lastnight at about 18:20pm, and its currently ongoing this morning.

Currently World Of Warcraft is experiencing massive choke, as in, you play normally, then it sortta lags so much, people running on the spot, then it speeds up again to catch up to where and what you are doing, then continues asnormal, rinse and repeat.

Please could you find out whats happening and fix this, its getting quite annoying now.

Thanks.
