MWEB Gaming Feedback

Thank you. That was definitely the type of reply I was hoping for.

Does that mean you will replace the "ideal for gaming" claim on your product website which went missing about 7 months ago?

Lounger to be honest it's not something I'd really thought about until you mentioned it now. That was removed as we realized that the nature of the IPC network as it was then presented some challenges for gaming.

The North-South split of the network, the fact that we have a substantial peering presence at CINX and JINX now, the gameservers.com partnership and the prioritization of gaming traffic are all things that have moved us much closer to being able to live up to a claim like this.

Marketing material aside if you had to ask me for my personal opinion I would say that once we crack this *swearword* WoW problem and with some of the other things I know we are planning (yes that is a teaser :D) I'd be happy to make a claim like that again very soon.

@Will, dont know who plays on battleping but that is really not my style, getting 400 -700ms ping and it spikes :(. so that is not for me(dont know how people can play with that ping and then the spikes as well :( )

Piet, im using battleping now and im getting 290-310 ms constant in raids and even during the city attacks. Well, i did yesterday and today, not checked yet tonight. Will check how it is during the week days. Protip: Use the England or Germany 2 server

Cool cant wait il buy some games for a chance if i can play them with 40ms, like black ops :P

Played Battlefield BC2 on the igame servers this weekend

The latency from the connection was decent

Their game server lagged like a b#### though
Empty an full clip into someone’s back and then wait a few seconds for them to die

That’s not MWEB fault though everyone on the server was unhappy about it

as for Lord of the rings online
normal +-270 latency

Wow Latency

Hi Will

The Wow latency is a well known fact by now (and surely hated by all!) but I was just wondering why it would be fine during daytime, abut after hours it lags out? Surely the bussines world puts more pressure on the ISP's that the casual gamers hunting boars in the forrest after 10 at night?
Or maybe I'm just missing the point.
I tried Wow this morning, before 8AM my latency was 1000+ ms, but it was like someone switched a switch at 8am and now my wife is slaying grizlly bears like only an undead can at less than 400ms.

I'm on a 384 5gig account, which as I've heard from mweb is non-shaped. Other online games (Like eve-online) seems to have no issues, and neither does p2p voice comms like ventrilo or Teamspeak.

But I am glad to hear you guys are aware of the issues and trying to resolve. Hope you don't mind but I'll be looking to this thread for answers.

And, don't forget, Cataclysm hits Dec 7, please pruddy please fix it by then.

Can confirm this as I generally play BC2 with a friend who is on an IS account, He has been having problems there since Friday.

logged on this morning into wow and all is fine, with my WTFast account that I had issues last night with :(, battleping was also not working last night....

i changed my MTU on my router and my network cards to 750 about 2 weeks ago and have had no problems since i have to accounts running on two pc's and we can raid in the same raids . Pings around 300 - 400 . It does start at about 1600 when i log in but within 30 seconds it settles down . Im in Capetown Muizenberg.

Hi Havoc

You would think that would be the case :) Friday nights testing was done specifically with this in mind, to try and narrow down exactly on the network WoW latency gets compromised after hours. We will be conducting more tests this evening, bypassing various segments of the network to try and further isolate the problem.

Right im just here to post in hopes that it might prove some help to someone:

Things i changed:
MTU (to 1000)
the tcp frequancy fix

The good results:
i have now a ping between 300-400
The Bad results:
Im experiencing random disconnects and at times my guildchat (shattered halls EU) will continue to work but i cannot cast my spells, my ventrillo will also work and not dc when my wow dc's. Also suddenly (today infact) my ping has yet to stabilize back to its formal glory of 300-400, usually it would start at 2k and drop dramatically, now it will drop but not gain stability spiking up and down.
What i have:
I have the 4mb uncapped deal from Mweb. My line however is 1mb (according to my router)
I also live in Cape town , Stellenbosch

Also as we speak my ping has yet to go back to 300-400 range.

Like I said the other day I think the pingtest result you were seeing was more of temporary issue with pingtest rather than a poor result :) What about the problems you were experiencing though? Have things improved?

We're about to kick off another round of tests this evening following on from Friday's findings. We're definitely making some headway in terms of isolating the source of the problem, but I don't want to really go into detail on this until we have everything in full context and the network boys have had some time to discuss possible ways forward.

I'll play some black ops later tonight then I can give you an update.

Anything you need us to do? What could we help with? We need to make some speedy discoveries, and you know there's a lot of gamers wanting to get this fixed. So I'm sure many of us would be willing to help..
