MWEB Gaming Feedback

Line speed, 384, Mweb uncapped 384 deal (shaped i guess, thou it was stated these accounts dont have their gaming traffic shaped). Im located close to PE, in a small town called Despatch, not allot of adsl users so cant see my exchange being over used. Ping is around 210 - 220 to bbc.co.uk. Cant really post a tracert now, busy downloading a file without resume support :(

Any other ISP i could think of shows no issues in wow except for my mweb account. (telkom, axxess, matrix, webafrica and afrihost.) With the proxy service and mweb i just get the dc while loading issue, but when its in game its fine. Problem is, proxy services can lose you your account.

And how do your wow latencies look when it works (i mean before all the issues). I wish I could test my stuff with other accounts, although i dont have any others to test it with... Hope your issues, along with mine, get sorted soon :(

Hi Will, lately iv been experiencing a rise in latency in Call of duty Black Ops,it isn't a huge rise but its rather irritating when you snipe someone and they matrix the
bullet or when you knife them first but you end up being knifed by them and when you view the killcam its like you were just standing there looking at the walls.
My ping rose from 48-55 on cape town servers to 65-90 and on JHB servers it rose from high 60s to 90-110,as i said it isnt a huge rise but when youre playing competitively in the NGL
its a bit of worry.

Hi Will. Although I've not received feedback from my last post (#1867), I did notice something interesting, even troubling in one of your other posts (sorry for the big snip):
-snip- It's also not outside the realm of possibility that you may not experience these problems with a different ISP as without IPC in the equation you may be breaking out far more directly onto the SAIX network and thus not taking the same route on the Telkom infrastructure. -snip-

I honestly hope this is not the case, but it's beginning to seem more likely. I'm also noticing a fair bit of web page timeouts these days - pages getting stuck midway and you have to press reload 2 or 3 times for all the content to come through properly. This I can deal with, but the anomalies in WoW ... well, you can imagine ... being a WoW player yourself. Like yourself, I have guildies with an MWEB connection saying it's working great now, as well as guildies on MWEB pulling their hair out with frustration. It's become a bit of a parody actually - some inside jokes about this issue and my lack in Raid / PVP performance. lol (one of them being " ... you don't defeat enemies, you high-ping-blink them to death"). There are others involving MWEB and treadmills I won't utter here :p (all in good fun, I promise :D)

I've bought some pre-paid time from another ISP for the time being. It's working remarkably well. As for MWEB ... Is there anything else that I can provide to you info wise. It will be a great pity if this cannot be resolved somehow. I will PM you my account details, just in case.

Thanks Will. You deserve a freekin medal bro. If anyone disagrees ... well, you have Rogue, you know what to do xD

Cheers,
Makova

are you in cpt or jhb?

if you in cpt , you suppose to get lower, if you route though jhb, you go though seacom, which is higher latency then sat-3( telkom and mweb cpt)

Hi Freaker, still looking for some detail on the nature of the problems you're having?

There really should be any reason from an MWEB network point of view for this, run a tracert to mweb.co.za at different times of the day and check what sort of cmdline latency you're getting particularly on the early hops - I think you will find that your Telkom latency is fluctuating, possibly due to some increased usage in your area.

how is your ping without blackops and ts running?

remember blackops uses allot of upload bandwitdh and ts adds to it,near maxing your upload bandwitdh.

Herectic, my ping is the same. One of the benefits of the 2MB line, is that it seems to burst at the line max rating.

Will, this problem is very recent. I normally have very little issue, and would also usually reset my router, but my son was in the middle of a clannie when I started playing, so I wasn't able to make any changes.

I'm still very curious as to how ingame communication works, as there is no latency with that, only game-play itself.

yeah in game chat is instant for me also when i do have that 20k ms.( i dont have 20k ms problem atm)

so yeah will , must have look from hes side.

cool so that's not bandwidth problem at least.

and another thing i had 20k ms also with my crappy router had to restart it each day to get my normal ping back, where billion just works easy day, but i doubt that is the problem.

Hi Blustorm

I'm curious as to why your line is locked at 2MB. Was it unable to maintain a sync at higher speeds, as this might be an indication of less than optimal conditions? Also I can confirm, as we have tested this quite extensively, you will not get bursting to 2mb speeds on a 384k account. There is a very slight advantage that you might experience over a user on an actual 384k line, but I can assure you it's marginal.

We have had a lot of feedback indicating that BlackOps puts a significant load on 384k connections and with a lot of Teamspeak chatter and WoW running as well this might very well be a stretch.

This would be easy enough for us to eliminate, drop me that PM and I'll arrange to bump your speed for an evening so you can see if it makes a difference :)

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure why it's locked at 2MB. I had it at 4MB for a good 6 months, then I started having horrendous line drops and connections speeds (640kbps auto-connects), and they locked it at 1MB with no success. They put it back to 4MB and all seemed fine for a while. One day it dropped to 2MB, and since I had a 384 account, I wasn't too phased. I'm more keen on the 512 up, as that seems to make a difference.

That slight advantage quite literally meant I was able to play in Wintergrasp and 25-man raids in WotLK. I had a 384 uncapped with another ISP back then (2009), and on the 384 line, I could not set foot in the fortress. After the line upgrade on the same account (and it was limited to 384), I didn't have a single DC. Maybe they didn't throttle burst as much, but I definitely downloaded at 38KB/s.

I'll see how it goes tonight, and if I still have an issue, I'll PM you tomorrow.
