MWEB Gaming Feedback

Will, as a final word on this because getting nowhere isn't amusing

Lounger ,you are being unreasonable. Will responded to every post you made and tried to explain to the best of his ability what Mweb's views are in regards to shaping online gaming traffic. you have the right not to agree with it of course, but you are simply not being truthful when you say Will is evasive or lying (as such) in his replies.

18:00 and all is not well. I was able to play WoW with no problem from 17:00 but as soon as 18:00 hit the latency went through the roof. Seems that it is still a problem and I seriously hope that we are not facing a weekend of 18:00 Friday to Monday 8:00 of this issue.

Same here, as soon as it hits 6pm, instant lag, 3k+ ms. This is so very frustrating.

Without trying to state the obvious, is mweb doing this.

Make a list of ANYTHING on the network that changes at exactly 6pm, then use the process of elimination to find out what change is happening at 6 that causes this issue. There has to be a change in the network at 6pm that gets this starting....how many things actually change at 6pm?

Soz if i come off as rude, this is not my intention, but the service im paying for is broken for a month now (1 month of mweb, R210 + 1 month of wow R110 + tunneling service R50. R380 for no peak time play.) Which might not seem like allot to some, but to others it is allot.

PS: Maybe we should create a wow / mweb only thread till this problem is solved.

HI Will@Mweb

Just a quick question have you guys changed anything today that would affect bandwidth and latency? For some reason my WoW latency was fine at around 310-450ms this afternoon but now it is at around 800-1000ms I noticed my connection went down and when it came back up it had a new DNS IP 196.28.75.200 any reason why? Also running a Torrent in the background at a limited speed of 30KB/s seems to destroy my latency and I have to shut that down it feels almost as if I only have 30KB/s to work with. Here is a tracert if it helps any.

Hi Hellhound, thanks for the detailed info. The DNS you have been assigned is correct. As part of ongoing optimizations we have now split our DNS and SMTP environments for Cape Town and JHB Users and a new DNS cluster has been brought online for JHB. In the interests of trying to fully understand this, what was the latency like without the torrent running?

Oddly with the Torrent turned off it stabilised at around 450-550ms it was still a little jumpy but generally I was happy with it. A few spiky blips though but I must say since after 7pm it seemed to have gotten better. Any idea why the Torrent at suck a low speed would affect the latency of the game?

Edit: One more thing I see you mention JHB and Cape Town but I live in Durban do we get assigned to the JHB one automatically?

Edit 2: Seems the pings went south again when I logged in now. around 800ms-2000ms depending.

Regards
Hellhound

@Hellhound that's correct. We have IPC links in JHB and Cape Town. Users in the Western Cape are routed via Cape Town, the rest of the country is routed via JHB. Why the torrent would affect it is a bit of mystery at this point, it's something I'll have to get the engineers to scratch their heads about, but for now if it works I would suggest that we try this as a proposed workaround and see if others report the same experience.

Thanks for the info Will I will do exactly that by the way after turning off Torrents pings are perfect for now I'll just download when I'm not playing :)

Regards
Hellhound.

Been a week now, WoW latency is so bad I cant even get past the login screen without being kicked.

The split second I got in, my latency was about 20000ms and I got kicked.

My torrents are blistering by at 60Kbps and my HTTP downloads at 20Kbps.

This isnt funny anymore

@Osiris please try stopping your downloads when you play and see if it makes a difference.

Edit: Can I also suggest that you PM the MWEB Operations team and get them to book you in for some more extensive troubleshooting, those download speeds indicate that you might be experiencing a more general problem.

Ok so my latency is down a bit, 1200 with spikes now instead of 7000. Question is, why is Hellhound's latency suddenly perfect? Is the changes made only affecting some parts of the country still Will? Or maybe the changes arent on 384 accounts yet? Please lemme know. Im in PE.
Im on 384 and obviously not downloading.

Slowly creeping up to 2000ms.

I think you need to compare what I wrote with what you read. There is a difference. Gaming traffic is not shaped and now it is being not shaped less. I guess that speaks for itself (sigh).

Sorry Will not running anything but wow and still 6k ping (capetown muizenberg)

I always stop all downloads when playing, also I release and renew the connection to ensure no one is hogging my bandwidth. No difference in latency.

I recieved a call yesterday ( after sending emails requesting an update on my problem ). My issue was escalated to the network engineers since last week. All I get from the techs is that they are "still looking into it" and I will get updated. This does not happen until I start sending emails asking whats going on.

@Sillicur I checked the tracerts you sent me before and your routing is via JHB so really the only difference now between you and Hellbound is in fact that you are on an unshaped account, can you show me a current cmd line trace and are you currently connecting with or without your tunneling service?

PM me your account details and I'll make sure it gets given proper attention tomorrow.

With or without the tunneling service its exactly the same in game atm. I am currently during the tracert on the tunneling service.

Trying to update an mmo I am playing and getting only about 7k-20k. Normally the updates fly at about 300k or so on my 4m account.

Hi Tegnik, is this constant, or only at certain times of the day?

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply. This is constant. It used to be very nice in the evenings, but it is now in the whole day.

Hi Will,

No change in Ping last night from my side, last night was horrible. 3k-20k ping so the rule changes or whatever was done did not help :(

07:00 and the latency is still problematic. I only use my connection for WoW and the lag spikes are hugely problematic. Starting to understand the frustration of some of the previous posters. Please Mweb sort this out.
