Ok guys an interesting piece of news.
So a tunneling service im using uses Port 10800 which is fine during the day and after 6pm it goes to hell. Now heres the interesting part, this same service changed the port they used on one server to another port and now i have 300-350ms any time during the day. With normal mweb (without tunneling service) it also goes to hell. So what does this mean for us?
Well this has to mean that "rules" change on ports right after 6, on certain ports and not on others or those ports get shaped after 6pm. That seems like the only solution that makes sense to me. So clearly the port mweb without a tunneling servers uses to connect to our specific servers we play on also gets its "rules" changed or gets shaped after 6pm and gets changed back at 8am each morning.
Please lemme know...
I really wish it was that simple. we don't have different rules for traffic prioritization at different times of the day. The only thing that's different in the evening is the size of the bandwidth pools for priority traffic vs shaped traffic, but we have tested adjustments in this area and they have clearly not had an effect. we've also attempted to take WoW traffic completely outside the managed traffic space, which has also not helped.
Sillicur what I'd like to understand is this. what prompted WTFast to change the port they were using?
Well i also made a thread on their forums (all the threads are deleted now) but an admin replied via email and said they would be testing different ports for users with the problem so they can continue to deliver a great service or something along those lines. I told them that a few ppl who used wtfast had the problem (people i have spoken too in wow) and they just "tried out different ports until they found those ports that no ISP's had problems with." Their words not mine
They will be implementing the new port usage on all their servers. They did mention something about congestation (spelling?) on certain ports from different ISP's in relation to wow. If the thread was not deleted i could have pasted it
So long story short, their test realm for the new ports have been working well any time during the day / night. There still some minor issues (lag going up from 300 to maybe 450 sometimes) but regardless of that, its playable now.
I will email the admin again, helping them test the changed servers. Dunno if this will be temporary or permanent thouWill ask them what prompted WTfast to change the port they were using from a more technical standpoint when I reply with my test findings. (in exams now till friday so trying to get it done inbetween)
Just a bit of news, people on the Clareinch exchange may notice improved latency. Playing on AxxessLite account on WoW with Vent on, getting a very constant 450ms to 650ms which has been the best I have had in a long time, so all that needs to happen now is MWEB coming to the party and getting their service sorted.
Will, appreciate the effort of you downloading the patches (must be helluva slow on 384k uncapped, even for an MWEB employee lol)
Hopefully we will get some news, getting a bit bored of accidentally capping extra accounts because I forget to switch them at night.
i ordered my 512k +uncapped from mweb yesterday, so waiting for telkom to activate dsl at my exchange for my line, then i can test mweb![]()
Actually downloaded them from the 4mb test bench at workI am waiting for Telkom to complete my 4mb upgrade at home - I see our latency is way down tonight, but my mailbox from Telkom is empty so I'm not considering anything fixed just yet, this could just be temporary.
Apparently the new patch changed some stuff as well. Maybe it will be better tonight.
what is it patch day .. again ?Apparently the new patch changed some stuff as well. Maybe it will be better tonight.
