MWEB Gaming Feedback

So you have confirmed that it is your traffic management equipment that is at fault? Did you remove the traffic management equipment from the route that WoW traffic takes?

As I said we have tried numerous fixes and workarounds. At this stage we haven't confirmed that anything is at fault.
Our engineers are working closely with the suppliers technicians to isolate the exact cause of the issue. As soon as I have meaningful progress to report on you guys will be the first to know.

Piet please confirm - if my memory serves me correctly you are in Cape Town?

yes i am, never mind now my weekend was ruined, had to spend money to play games, download needed drivers and stuff, etc etc. Will sorry for all the ranting but really Mweb service was top notch when i joined them for the first time ever back when the uncapped was announced to the public. When i joined and saw the support and the speeds etc etc I thought to myself "wow why did I not join them 3 years back already ?"

but now I see why not, because you get top notch service and after a few months its like we are table scraps, new users get the top notch service and speeds etc etc when they join, and us the people who have been here for a few months get nothing accept the bin.......

I really apologize for ranting but this issue is going on long enough already and there is a lot of other options that can be used to solve this issue and a lot of bright people posted here on how to investigate and try to help you guys at mweb but it seems like you just don't care about the people who have been with you for a few months.

I also work in a high end 99.8% uptime environment and I know some stuff can be tedious but we had a issue on our network and within 24 hours we found the issue, failed back and now my environment is fine again. So I cannot understand why it takes Mweb so long to fix a issue, and i definitely know that Mweb is a multi million rand company but really it does not seem that way, I am at this point were I am so disappointed that I joined Mweb in the first place.....

How long still before we can play world of warcraft again without 11k latency?

I would like the same answer as well Will. Before December? After December? All WoW players would agree with me that this problem has been coming along since 20 October 2010 (The day patch 4.0.1 came).

If this problem is not going to be fixed before December then I will have no choice but to move to another service provider. I cannot pay for something that is sub-standard or for something that I have to constantly tinker with just to get it to work.

@vinnigepiet

Really there is no need to apologize for the rant, I understand that you're having a frustrating time, but I'm very concerned about the experience that you're reporting outside of WoW as I can assure you that it is not indicative of how the service is performing right now.

I can also assure you that we do not have any mechanisms in place, to apply any shaping, or throttling policies to individual users based on their usage, or the age of their account so the suggestion that new users are somehow getting a different experience is simply not valid. Please could you forward your details to MWEB Operations and allow them to arrange end to end troubleshooting for you as I would like to get to the bottom of why your overall experience has deteriorated.

Can I also take the opportunity to extend this suggestion to all others visiting this thread. If you are having general performance issues, then there is an underlying problem which needs to be addressed. Please try and follow the normal processes for getting these issues resolved, or ask the MWEB Ops team to assist you.

Kind Regards
Will

Hey, my last post was from a few weeks ago so excuse me if i missed anything. I ended up taking a break from WoW for the last few weeks as it was unplayable, so I tried again this weekend and still the same issue. Just wanted to ask something as i have been chatting a couple of my friends who also WoW on mweb. Some of them experience perfect latency and some have the same issues as all of us here. They are both on 4mg lines, mweb uncapped shaped. Why is it that some users are fine and others are being affected? We are all on the same wow server, and have exactly the same line, only difference is our location. I live in the Cape Town city bowl and they live in the Southern Suburbs. Hope this helps in some way...
Thanks!

This thread seems to be dominated by WoW issues and PC gaming - I was wondering if there is a specific thread for PS3 gaming issues that are the same but much less transparent.

SEVERE latency and constantly being kicked for the last month or so - same timeframe as all the complaints listed here. Connecting mainly to EA servers.

Please advise or point in the right direction.

Thanks

just so you know, this is what we all want to know and Mweb has been investigating for the past few weeks.....so no answer to your question :(

whats weird. with me last week my lat was fine in wow. between 300 and 600. and then friday it went all pearshaped again. i then went and played arround by changing my username. from @dslmweb.co.za to @mweb.co.za and what i could see from running tracert's is that traffic gets routed differently. made no difference in WOW though. hope we can figure this out soon.

my free 1 gig afrihost account is gonna run out soon

Gents there is simply no way that I can commit to a resolution date, until the current investigation has been completed.

Vaughan i would very much like to speak to your friends. Please could you ask them if they would be willing to assist us with testing and provide me with contact details. If there are certain users who are not experiencing this latency at all without MTU changes and tunneling services then this paints a completely different picture.

Thanks
Will

You would think that when you realize that DPI fails to figure out which packets are WoW packets that you guys would find another way to give WoW priority. Other ISPs using the same equipment fixed their WoW problems.

Hi Will,
I have asked one of them to reply here. He is at work now though, so he will do so at lunchtime.

@ Will

I know you cant really answer if it will be fixed by the 7th of December, which i think is when all of us dont want any latency troubles. I know you cant say, but from your perspective as a gamer, would it be wise to stay on Mweb seeing as we are so close the the expansion now? What would you do?

Is there a realistic chance of it being fixed at all? Atm giving the time it has already taken it looks like about 90% chance that it wont be fixed before 7th December.

I think i can speak for allot of us wow players who are having issues that staying on Mweb right now would be just as good as taking our cash out of your wallets and burning it.

Im not really looking for a specific yes or no answer if it will be fixed by that time, but as you have worked with your network team extensively, is there a realistic chance of it being fixed? ballpark figures here would be appreciated.

The answer to this question, will decide my fate with Mweb from here on out..

Oh and
Atm giving the time it has already taken it looks like about 100% chance that it wont be fixed before 7th December.

@ Will,

Here is how your engineers can fix the WoW problem, guaranteed.

Fetch IP list from http://www.iblocklist.com/list.php?list=blizzard ( only the ones marked as enabled )

Create a script that fetches that list when it updates, then in a host group inside Catalogs, that you can call lets say, "WoW Game IPs" you populate this list, preferably as ranges and not every single ip as the device will fall over. Then you give this ip ranges the same priority that you give other games in the policy editor, and the problem will be solved.
