MWEB Gaming Feedback

Will just to clarify something and this has been the problem for me since the beginning. The ingame latency meter doesn't really mean jack with regards to this problem. I can have 20 000ms or 600ms on mweb, and the lag still feels the same. Massive spikes with intermittent moments of no lag. Even when its reading 600ms there will still be extended delays when mounting, casting etc. To give you a clear example. I will log in latency will read 600ms, mount up and it works fine, dismount and it stalls, try to remount and nothing for 3 or 4 seconds then bam suddenly i'm mounted. This makes the game totally unresponsive and unplayable for anything other than something mundane like gathering herbs. Its been like that since the beginning of this problem, and like i've said before, its a type of lag I have never before experienced in any game. I switch to my Axxess account and its perfect, rarely goes over 300ms and its an extremely solid connection, never spikes or stalls.

@Xennox

Are you in JHB, or CPT - I've just switched to my DSL connection and can consistently log in to Steam without any issues. I've noticed that it is choosing WA's steam server as a connection point, which would explain the difference in experience for JHB customers as they will probably end up going to an international server. We are working on something to improve this and I will update you with the details in the near future.

I'm in JHB.

Hear what you're saying Vaughan, I just don't quite know how to measure that. I need to spend more time playing the game myself as opposed to just logging into busy areas and gauging from the latency meter and data transfer readings.

We will be reimplementing the P2P session limiting tomorrow night if everything goes according to plan. I don't think this will be a silver bullet (let me get my disclaimer in before Piet starts cursing me again on Saturday morning :p ), but it's good practice to have this in place and it at very least means that we have one more tick in a box in terms of areas that have been covered.

Has anyone else had it while playing starcraft 2 that exactly at 18:00 and 20:00 presumably when the shaper "changes modes" the game just lags out? I don't disconnect from battlenet. If I go into another game immediately all is fine.

Or is it just in my head?

Well, that'd be the same as the WoW issues. So you probably not dreaming it up :p

No man. The game stays playable after the switch. It's just when the switch happens I lag out. Well more so at the 18:00 swicth than the 20:00 one. Sometimes the 20:00 one only lags for about 10seconds then back to normal.

Suppose it's not a huge issue. Just irritating when I start a game just before 18:00 instead of waiting till 18:05.

It's not an unlikely scenario I suppose When several million P2P sessions all switch gear at that time it might cause a blip in your active SC2 sessions.

I haven't had much time to play SC2 yet, but I will see if I can get myself into a game at the right time and try to replicate this, although I can't really see that there is much that could be done about it.

Also it's entirely possible that I will get Zealot rushed, or something equally embarrassing and the game won't last long enough for me to check :p

Well I mostly play custom maps so not a big issue to be honest. Just thought I'd mention it.

ISPs seem to be struggling right now. Both MWeb and Afrihost latency just shot through the roof :( Anyone else?

It also sometimes happens with Warcraft 3 local.

WoW Stormrage EU: Happy to report a steady 500ms with some dipping into the 470ms range :D Hope this lasts.... If it does, thanks Will ;)

Thanks burn, seeing some very interesting results here as well - anyone else?

Hi Will, Just tested MWEB in the new Deephome zone, and its the best its been since this problem started. Still stalling irregulary when initiating some actions like mounting, but its definitely playable for questing and stuff. Getting there...

Unfortunately it lasted for about an hour and now ranging between 1000-2000ms but lots of packet loss.... But there is still some improvement, as it is barely playable instead of unplayable. What ever you're doing, do more of it :D

Hi me again, i see that my net went off at a round 11:00 and when i came back up - the LAG IS BACK >< GRRRRR

Iv come back on the server this morning at 8 and we still got the same lag going on, can you look at your log on the routers and round 11 last night and see when we last the net and see why the lag has come back. The ms is round 1.5 - 3.5 and its like ever 3 or 4 sec its stops, like packet lost.
