MWEB Gaming Feedback

Alrighty,

Tried router reset to change IP address - no luck.
Removed all other machines from the network - no luck.
Changed router MTU to 450 / 750 / 1450 / 1492 - no luck.
Disabled all addons - no luck.
Disabled WoW updater - no luck.
Tried toons on other realms, bot established toons and new toons - no luck.

With all of the above I can log onto the client, select a toon and then watch the loading bar go full wait a minute and time out.

Changed to Afrihost account - logs on with no problem and I'm even able to do hcs.
Mweb account on weekends - able to load a character and play, ping is slow but with MTU change it is playable, but times out in instances [even when soloing old content]
Currently trying to update SC2 will check my ping while playing that.

Edit: out of ideas now, feel free to make more suggestions for me to try out.

ebolazaire, I had a similar experience. I could log on to WoW with IS based accounts, but not SAIX based. I stumbled on this solution while playing with DNS resolving speed tests. It worked for me, give it a try.

I changed the DNS servers to google public ones (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) rather than have them automatically assigned to you by the ISP. I then flushed the DNS cahce like this: ipconfig /flushdns, and my problem was resolved.

Hope it helps you.

Just by the fact that changing to afrihost account solves your problems it shows that its a Mweb issue on their side.

Thanks Gus,

Will give this a try.
Also, I'm able to update SC2 with the latest patch but I am unable to download any of the multiplayer maps or start any multiplayer games.

edit: @sillicur, that's what I figure also, but shouldn't more people be having a problem if that's the case?

edit 2: Ta for the suggestion Gus, unfortunately that changed nothing.

Your traceroutes and pings are BAD, impossible to use for gaming bad. Either something is using up a lot of bandwidth on your line (torrent, spyware, virus etc.) and causing a bottleneck, your phone line is damaged, or your exchange is congested.

I recommend installing NetLimiter on all your home PCs for monitoring, disconnect any other devices that are using the internet and making sure there is nothing using bandwidth you are unaware of. You would be amazed how many people I've helped "fix" their ADSL lagging in games simply by finding a rampant process on one of the computers using up all their bandwidth.

I've had net limiter installed and running on both my pc's ever since before I started with MWEB. My Line is brand new as it was installed as I signed up with them. Also all anti-viruses are up to date and not free junk ;), thus the congestion is the most likely cause.

Lets hope this gets sorted FAST :)

Will,

I'm sorry to day this but MWEB has now gone for a complete ball of S**T, as others are experiencing, I can't even log into the game anymore on my MWEB account regardless of MTU changes or using WTFast to try and improve the latency.

I do still have access to an old Axxess prepaid account which I switched over to now, without WTFast I was able to log in first time and at this moment I am sitting with a 387ms ping.

Yeh cant even log in atm. Game just stops after loading screen is done. Will, this is not some isolated user issue, this is Mweb, AGAIN. Like usual, cant have more than a week of smooth internet before it all goes to **** again. I think we all need some explanations Will, we need some fast.

How long is this gonna continue, are you even actively working on a solution to this or are you still determining if its not a user side issue (rofllol).
At the very least admit that there is a ****ing problem.

have same problem, i log out just outside orgemar, then let it settle in, then i do my stuff then it is fine.

but when i try to log into orgemar, it seems, it just not using bandwidth, or not allot even though it should be using alllot, had the same problem with 3g a while back

forgot to add, my chat is instant, message goed though and get reply from friends, just actually game chars and world that is slow.

Just adding in I have the same symptoms, log in and get immediately disconnected - use my backup WA unshaped with no problems.

Pirates of the Burning Sea

The first few nights I logged on to Pirates of the Burning Sea i had little or no lag. Now it takes me ten minutes to log onto the server and if i type in chat it takes about a minute to see what I have typed displayed to other players.
Net limiter indicates i am using less than 1.2kbs which makes me think the protecol used by the game is being throttled.

I got in, still took some time. Thing is, it should work 24/7 just not on selective times. No response from Mweb on the issue yet either. Tomorrow will probably be the same bs.

My WoW (EU, Cape Town) was working beautifully since Mweb did the Cape Town upgrades. Just today however, it seems things have gone to hell again, 3k latency and monster spikes =( Will have to fire up BattlePing again.

Edit: BattlePing fixes the problem completely, 190ms constant to Twilights Hammer. I assume other proxy services will fix it aswell. Seems WoW is getting shaped badly again.

hi Ebolazaire

Please PM me your mweb account details and we will investigate this for you. Also is this the only problem you are encountering at the moment?

MWeb Problem

I also cannot log into any characters - if I even get that far. Re-installed WoW as I initially thought it a Blizzard problem ... but it's MWeb. Speeds low across the board (struggled to even get on to mybroadband). Changes to MTU did not work.

I would just liked to have been informed that there was an issue and MWEb were working on it. Having to come onto the forums to check if there is a more generic problem speaks volumes for MWeb's lack of communication with their clients.

I went from Afrihost to MWEB after the Cape Town upgrades were done and had a fantastic connection for about 2 weeks. However, since the 10th Jan 2011 my MWEB connection has gone up in smoke in terms of ping and WoW. I have similar problems than some of the other posters here - Log onto WoW ... get disconnected a few times ... then when I finally do get in, the latency is through the roof (regardless of server - I've even tried low population ones). Sometimes it seems things are smoothing out, but its very irratic. It's like the communication to WoW just stops randomly and then you DC. When you try to log in, you are greeted by a super long loading screen with zero activity for anything up to 5 minutes.

I'm not even going to bother with pasting traceroutes here, because the weird thing is, if I do a traceroute to the server I play on, it seems fine. If you're lucky, you might do the traceroute at exactly the time high latency (or in this case, packet loss) kicks in. Its very intermittend and of course, it makes the game completely unplayable. More feedback from MWEB will be very welcome at this point.

Hey, everyone posting here for 2 pages are experiencing the same problem, how about you look into the big problem for all of us and not individual accounts.
This isnt a user error on an individual account error, this is much more wide spread, i know of about 10+ gamers having the same problem who dont even bother making an account here.

Guess this post will just go unnoticed and you will just quote one of the other posts again to pm you their details.

Like a previous poster said, we need confirmation that you are aware of the issue and busy resolving it.
