MWEB Gaming Feedback

Ah another STO player.... Glad Im not on my own :) Yeah jumped on about 1.5 weeks ago (a few times throughout the day) and all lagged. So decided to give it a break for a while and try again at another time.

Hi there.

Sorry I think I missed this one. I don't recall STO hitting our radar before now so it's possible it needs a tweak. I will do some research tomorrow and see if anything needs adjusting for you guys. Any links, with used ports and server IP's would be gratefully recieved and save me a lot of time :)

Will, that might be the case. I dont know if my account was left on an unshaped profile or not. That could very well be, but before we did the testing I had like 4 months of full speed. Well, there might have been a few days here and there that i had exactly 26kb/s. I remember that number. Thing is, I just dont understand why it goes full speed during 1am and 7am. I mean at 11:30 pm last night it was still sitting at 10kb/s. Will, I know that shaping occurs, but i guess my question is, why is it getting shaped so hard? I mean this is basically 56k or ISDN speed, I could use dailup and get the same amount done.

So, back to my question, will i get my account suspended or cancelled if i use port 80 more? Just wanna know so I have confirmation that i will not get suspended.

FYI, I dont think its just me Will. Regarding the NNTP issue. Since last weekend up to now i have seen sooooo many topics on a "3rd party" site that says "WTH mweb" "mweb low" "anyone else having issues with mweb news?" "Mweb crawling" With countless replies.

We arent asking for full speeds. Im not even asking for full speeds. Surely 1/4 of a 384's line speed is a bit excessive shaping? I can get more with P2P. Apparently some of the ppl complaining about slow mweb speeds on those threads have 4mb line/account and also running at exactly 10/11kb/s like me.

Another thing I did which improved my WoW experience greatly, was to flash my netgear modem with the DGteam Ubuntu driven firmware... its running on a 2.6 Linux kernel, and since the last update for Netgear DG834XX series modems was released in 2008, the new firmware has tons of tweaks + updated Modem drivers on a firmware level applied to it... The buffer sizes are modified / tweaked as well vs the default netgear OEM firmware.

I would like to give this a bash as I am running a Netgear DG834G (firmware v4.01.06). Any chance of a link to the firmware you downloaded and what are the chances of bricking my router? xD

Very handy info, thanks!

On a side note, latency looks to be somewhat decent this evening for the raid, but it's early days yet! :P

Sillicur please could you refer to my feedback and updates in the main MWEB thread regarding the news server as there really isn't anything else I can tell you at this point.

Will and Mwebguy, I appreciate that you are trying to help. Hopefully the problems will be resolved soon. Thanks again :)

Gaming feedback, one word. Useless.

So unstable its not even funny. It has been like this for 3 weeks now, and I'm sorry, if you cant solve it in 3 weeks, you should be doing something else for a living. We already paying much, much more than other countries and its for worse service... terrible.

ps. its not telkom for me, it is mweb... and have another isp that is on telkom backbone and is stable (higher ping, but always stable).

Jip feel the same. Black ops having endless issues. I'm giving up on that game. The game is fine but MWEB doesn't respond to me. I rather have a ping of 100 stable than have a ping of 25 thats disconnecting every now and then. I think MWEB must think of letting someone else take over the gaming. Aother ISP will do a much better job. IS or saix can do that. I will be happy to pay for an openweb local cap to play BLack ops per month.

Heya StevenC ...

Sure, here is the site I used : http://dgteam.ilbello.com/
Once you upgraded your firmware, you will see a ton of new features and settings added... Even stuff to modify your line noise tolerance levels... If you don't like the new firmware, you can also downgrade it again.
They say its possible to brick it, but there is a method to get out of it... however for me and a friend of mine, it was a straight forward simple upgrade with no hassles. Its very neat and you can even run tests on your line with the modem to see if your line is able to handle 10 meg adsl once they enable it at the exchange.

Honestly by the end of this month this is all fixed or it is back to Telkom for me. i am not a torrent junkie, I am a gamer for crying out loud and for Mweb to treat gaming traffic as torrents is just rubbish.
We have been given the run-around for almost a week. and pre-London management system istallation service is no longer there.
I have to now believe that this is the norm for Mweb from now on and if so they can expect my cancelation fax in the post before month end.
At least with Telkom I got what I paid for, blended consistant service.
To be kicked from a game everytime I connect to a server which I have been playing uninterupted since I got Mweb is an issue I cannot accept.
Promises to fix and issue that nobody understand.

Thanks Will, I have dropped you a PM regarding this.

Ca nyou guys please check Black ops again. My black ops taking 5 min to get passed the fetching stats thing and want to make a video takes like 10min to load.

Now it's telling me that there is no internet connectivity when there is. I'm so sick and tired of this

Hi nelis

I've raised a case with a manager in our Premier support team to check on your line conditions etc as discussed with your Dad yesterday. I will follow up on this and provide feedback to your Dad on the status later today. As I agreed with you I will take some video of Black Ops gameplay this evening to prove to you that the game is working correctly.

I also logged it with Telkom. The fault is with our home ADSL account. the problem is my DAD don't really check into gaming and stuff as he doesn't play games so having to tell him that Gaming isn't working is really hard for me. BTW I'm 23 so not a kid anymore for everyone wondering. can I pm you our line number so that you guys can do some testing on our home account aswell.

Hi SHVAK

Apologies for not addressing this one for you sooner. I have one of our engineers looking at RoF signatures for me now, there should hopefully be some improvement by tomorrow.

Hi Will.

I need to ask for 2 favours please.

1) Can you also look at Black Ops from my side as well? Not sure if the slowdown is due to Steam or the game itself. Just let me know what info you need.
2) There is a MMO called Black Prophecy. I'm guessing its not very popular (just entered open Beta) but I'm unable to play on any of the PvE/PvP mixed servers due to high ping. It seems the Server I am playing on is UK based, but not sure how to get you any useful info?? My ping (able to track ingame) sits at around 450-650ms which sadly seems to take me out the game. It seems ~350ms makes it playable....

Any help with those would be greatly appreciated.
Again please let me know what info you need from me.

Cheers

Ive also played Black Prophecy. BTW its been fully released for about a month now. However to be able to really play this game you would need a ping of 100 or less. It's not like other mmo's as the combat is more instant action and a flight sim. Unless you have a very good ping it's going to be hard playing it. Hope you come right though.

Yeah thanks man. I only realised my mistake afterwards.... it fortunately had little bearing on my request :D
Do you still play?
