hi. Starting on Saturday, I have been getting disconnected from the internet every couple of hours (3-5).
On sunday, this became much worse, with disconnections sometimes happening every few minutes.
At 6pm I got disconnected 3 times within 15 minutes.

On monday the situation was the same, and today its been even worse.
During the afternoon I had periods where I got disconnected for about a minute, connected for a few seconds, disconnected for 1-2 minutes, connected for a few seconds, etc....

I have heard from other mweb users that they are experiencing the same, and one even said these problems started last week.

Does anyone know if mweb are having big problems or not?
What are my rights as an MWEB ADSL user in this regard.

Thanks

Thanks for that link.
Btw is it legal for mweb to disconnect every hour once you reach 90% cap used?

M-Web pays for any bandwidth that you use over and what you paid for.

They can pretty much do as they please as far as I'm concirned. If you don't like it, get a different ISP. If you where stupid enough to sign a contract, you should have known better :)

When it disconnect does your router's ADSL light go off or just PPP(authentication) light? Cause it might not be MWEB but infact the big green/blue monster.

Wow a fanboy of mweb. moron.
I didn't sign the contract, and as most, my parents stayed with mweb on the jump from dialup to adsl.
Although I mentioned that on another thread. Did I mention you are a moron?

Snormossel, Im not sure. but on the dlink page (192.160....) it shows that its totally disconnected during this time, thus:
Connecting to server: Disconnected
Negitiation: -----
Authentication: -----

But once it connects, it authenticates immediately.

I phoned mweb, who told me it must be the telkom line.
I phone telkom, who said it shows that i've used 7.42GB on my 2GB cap, and that my line works perfectly, and that mweb is screwing me around.
I phone mweb again, and this moron comes on (half asleep, can't speak almost) and says it shows that i've used 700mb of my 2GB cap, and that mweb do not disconnect users, only telkom has the power to do that. He said Telkom don't have access to such details as my cap information, and that that telkom guy was talking crap to me, and that it's telkom's fault.

Who do I believe now?
And what can I do if neither side admits fault?

If you didn't sign a contract, change your ISP. This is a typical case of what happens when you deal with a combination of Telkom and Mweb - each one will blame the other and you just have to hope and pray that it starts working again.

Zell I haven't experienced this disconnect every hour you have experienced when I am close to my cap, but MWEB definitely hard caps you once you reach your cap.

Dnt want to sound nasty but it is more a Telkom line issue by the looks of things. Cause if MWEB will cut you then only the PPP light (Autentication) will go off and in your case it looks like the ADSL goes off all together.

What is your SNR margin and line attenuation? And also can you see errors on the D-Link router??

Not sure on what the SNR margin or line attenuation are.

But I see no errors on the router.

Oh and "Savage"
As far as I'm "concirned", I asked that question because I remember reading something last year where ICASA wanted Telkom to change their disconnections from 12 hours back to 24 hours.
And since I get it every 1 hour at 90%, I asked if it's legal.

Trying going into the GUI and check under the ADSL option. On my Billion it is under ADSL so yours should be there as well, me thinks....

Will you now chill out and focus on the people who are trying to help you

Okay I found it.

Line Attenuation: 29DB downstream, 8.5DB upstream
Noise Margin: 24DB downstream, 23DB upstream

Okay well that looks fine.....
I have tried F/W upgrade for the router?

Nope. but this has all been working well until saturday :P
This router is the Netgear DGL384 v3.. so it's well updated I assume.

You seem to know alot about this, would you say this is telkom's fault or should I push mweb on this issue?
One of them is lying but I don't know who.

Push them both Zell, they are both responsible for providing service to you.

Unfortunately I spent 30 minutes on the phone with that mweb employee who refused to understand that my router settings are fine, and that they haven't changed since I started using adsl 1.5 years ago....... And he was half asleep repeating the same thing over and over.. and my mom got angry with me for wasting time :S

THose mweb employees are seriously...
The thing is, either side I can call and they will tell me lies. I need to know which is lying so I can get some form of results.

Your frustrations are understandable, FWIW if you manage to get a Telkom technician out to test your line then you have taken one of the variables out. I had a problem on my adsl line a while ago and only when Telkom came out to test from my house were they able to sort the issue out.
