I got it to work for 1 night and now it's dead. I'm unable to connect. I was thinking maybe I'm using the wrong details. I'm using news.mweb.co.za port 119 - would this be correct?

I'm on mweb 4mb uncapped.

Thanks

get web africa and hop onto news.wa.co.za :) works like a charm for me

Download slots are all taken. Perhaps try connecting earlier in the day.

Perhaps if you'd keep quiet it will continue to work like a charm.

They don't have uncapped packages, so are more likely to keep it running.
Its a limited resource & the more people pile on it the worse it gets. Whether those people are on capped or uncapped doesn't matter...they use download slots either way.

ah, makes sense. It's full. Some logic in the mix would suggest to me that Mweb will probably save themselves some international bandwidth and some money in the long run if they had a proper news server... and there I was thinking the IS news server sucked...

Obviously, but WA are more likely to upgrade since their bandwidth is generally more expensive. They even pimped it on their blog this week IIRC.

MWEB should have a similar incentive (as I mentioned elsewhere), since it does remove the load from their international pipes.

Can anyone tell me how to access Mweb's news servers? Do I simply go to news.mweb.co.za? I've read that I need to use port 119, but where do I set this?

With a news reader. SABnzbd (preferably) or Alt.binz.
Search the forums for the SABnzbd thread and you'll get sorted quickly.

Good Evening, please see the direct message I have sent you.

Can I hijack this thread to ask about the quality of mweb's news servers? Using the saix server in Telkom I get complete line saturation of my 1mb line for about 80% of the month (the other 20% it runs at half speed) and I get full speed during the day. Retention is pretty good with many 250 day+ items successfully downloading. How does mweb compare?

247 speeds.
Retention differs but Ive grabbed 400day old (more popular stuff) without issues.

Please could someone provide some help on how to access SABNZBD remotely either from another PC or using SABRemote. It seems fairly simple, but I just can't figure out what to use as my host  I've tried 0.0.0.0 with port 8080 and 8081, but no luck

Is the main PC you use Sabnzbd on connected via PPPOE? If not, use the IP address of that PC.
