About 3months ago I would've said mweb, but right now rather openweb lite. Especially for your usage.

Don't even consider Mweb. Been there done that. You are just a number. Openweb ftw!

I'm on OpenWeb Gold through the Vodacom backbone and I couldn't be happier.

Perhaps PM MrBEEP or e-mail him (ceo[at]openweb.co.za) and ask what product he'd recommend and go from there?

I love OpenWeb and MrBEEP's (Keoma Wright) support is first class. Would take that over M-Web any day.

Inaccurate

For the record, MWeb has a very prominent and active presence on these forums and regularly interacts with users by answering questions in the threads or via PM. I'd hardly call that being "just a number".

If you look on HelloPeter, all the
responses are much the same.

"Send me your details and we'll
look."

They do answer general queries.
On a technical basis they don't
have a clue and will leave tickets
open for months. I left them last
month and what I reported never
got resolved.

MWEB are more interested in their
image, which is why you see a few
pretend-customers on their FB wall
and here saying how wonderful the
service is.

I am still waiting for a refund some
3 1/2 weeks later after a multitude
of promises and a further period of
ignoring the problem completely.

Stay away from MWEB. My advice.

Hi GingerBeer

Perhaps you missed my response in the other thread. I also tried to make telephonic contact with you on Friday afternoon however your cell seemed to be off. I have arranged to have the additional refund that you requested on HelloPeter to be paid into your account and I apologize again for the misunderstanding that took place around your cancellation date and the debit order that we were unable to stop in time. The funds should be in your account during the course of next week. I will follow up on this personally.

In terms of our approach to support on these forums and Hellopeter you are quite right, we do often respond with a request for customer details and then attempt to resolve the issue offline by means of a one-on-one interaction with the customer involved. We prefer this approach as it keeps our customers details private and does not clutter the forum with troubleshooting questions.

Currently I'm only aware of one fake poster on our Facebook page and he/she is definitely not a fan :)

Kind Regards

Let's just clear up a few things. Either
you have not been told the facts or you
choose to twist them.

There was no "misunderstanding", as
you put it. There were TWO promises
not to take money out of the account,
which was then done.

NO refunds were then subsequently made
by MWEB.

In fact I was given the run-around for a
long time. I had one person telling me
one thing and then another refusing
to do what the previous had promised.

Why were my e-mails ignored? I have
asked MWEB repeatedly to contact me
via e-mail and not mobile. In fact, I
have a copy of that conversation if you
are interested.

I have been quite patient for weeks.

Now, please forward me what you owe
me without further delay.

Thank you.

Hi GingerBeer

The transaction was put through on Friday and the funds will be in your account as soon it clears the bank. In terms of my reference to a misunderstanding you were promised that the notice period would be waived and you would not be billed any further, unfortunately this promise was made right at the end of the month after the billing run had already taken place and the debit order could not be stopped in time.

In the interests of ensuring that we have complete closure on this matter and that you are not out of pocket in any way please could you inbox us a phone number. or another preferable contact method so that I can double check all of the facts with you first thing in the morning and address any other concerns that you still have.

Many Thanks

I can only comment on the MWEB 4mb product as that is what I subscribe to.

Based on performance it is in effect a 1mb-2mb uncapped account with a soft cap/termination clause at around 500gigs. For internet browsing and emailing it runs at 4mb 24/7 but for everything else expect 1mb-2mb.

If the 512kb account exhibits the same characteristics it's probably pretty frustrating to use for anything else other than a aforementioned internet browsing and emailing... Having said that at the price it is still pretty damn good value for money.

Perhaps the OW Gold range of products perform a little better with the lower contention ratios they advertise but they're also a little more expensive. Also Mr Beeps is a high ranking official at the company (in fact he could be the CEO/owner) and is easily accessible right here on myBB..

True. What I hate is the complete falseness.

What they're really doing is biting their lips
and cursing that I'm making a scene in 'public'.

It's their own fault and the way they're trying
desperately to put their 'errors' in a good light
makes me want to throw something at the
screen.

Wouldn't it be so refreshing to hear the guy
say "Yeah, we investigated and person x
was upset with you and decided to withhold
the money to get a rise out of you. We've
dealt with him so it won't happen again."

Well, I emailed Mr Beeps 5 minutes ago, quizzing him on the Gold uncapped product and got a response within minutes!!! Bear in mind it's 10pm on a Sunday evening....!!! :wtf::)

GingerBeer if it was a debit order then you can get it reversed directly by your bank.
You just go to them and say that the debit order was done incorrectly
and they give you little paper to sign and the debit order is reversed
no cost (other than the time unfortunately)

This is actually a no brainer.

OpenWeb.

Duh.

I will choose MWEB any day. Their support is just outstanding. If it wasn't for them we would still have only capped internet

Well OpenWeb is working great for me, but since I haven't used MWEB at all I can't bash them.

I think a lot of the users MyBB are stuck in the "My dad could beat up your dad" debate with some saying OpenWeb is crap or Mweb is crap and the other one is the best. Thats like saying one brand of car is better than the rest. Maybe you have a better experience with one ISP than another but the opposite could be true for someone else.

I had to wait for 4 months for my ADSL line to get sorted and in that time I waded through all the opinions/comments/facts about all the different ISP's on MyBB and I still wasn't sure if OpenWeb or MWEB was the better choice. I took a leap and chose OpenWeb and are happy with them, but who knows MWEB might have been a better or worse choice. I'll never know except if OpenWeb doesn't work for me anymore, then I might try MWEB.

I do 80+ a month on my 512k which would cause me to run foul of the 20/80 Rule on the Openweb lite account, but with a negligible price difference and your stated useage (I'm assuming your couple of torrents aren't something like BR rips) the Openweb lite accounts looks the better of the two.
