hi guys,

i am currently a MWEB premium uncapped customer, and have no complains however i was wondering is it worth it to move to Openweb,Afrihost or any other ISP for that matter, how does other ISP`s compare to MWeB with regard to speed and throttling?

only reason i ask these questions is because MWEB not upgrading me to a 2mpbs due to the fact that im a premium customer.

Additional Info:
during the day my download speeds are really slow (6kb-30kb), evening (40-80), late night (above 100)

Most ISPs are horrid during the day.

If you're happy where you are I recommend staying there. The thresholds on premium are also pretty high.

You're an mweb premium subscriber but get slow speeds during the day? That mweb premium comes with a premium monthly subscription and if you're not getting premium value then I'd suggest you take that premium monthly subscription and go have a look see at some of the business uncapped offerings from the other ISPs.

I recommend moving to the Afrihost Business Uncapped, its much more reliable than the Titan or Mweb Premium Package. I have used all of them and Afrihost offering is superior in every regard.

I can't tell if you're sarcastic or trolling.

What do you recommend the Titan package on the IS backbone shaped to crap during the day 150kpbs max rofl ? Or the mweb premium account shaped to crap each day till 16:45 you avarage 40 to 100kpbs during the day and shaping ssh and RDP/vnc/vpn ports. Yeh no they are great for business use ... get a clue ...

We are not talking about browsing mybb or thechive .... this is real technical work being done on this lines. Afrihost is the only ISP of all of them that guarentees no shaping on any port on the business package and testing it confirm is. Go ahead test it yourself but then again if you acually used the package you would know this already.

Did you try run a voip server on an IS or Mweb package yet?

Go take your biased drivel else where.

Openweb client for 5 years managing 14 companies running on the Titan package as well.
Mweb Premium from Offices in town for 2 years and managing 3 corporate clients.
Afrihost Business client for 3 months ...

Titan is super cheap and shouldn't even be compared to the other accounts you're naming.

I'm on Web Africa Business.

if someone held a gun to my head and made me choose a home account I'd take Openweb Gold.

I have the Titan account and was fed up with it less than 48-hours in. I cancelled my R260 Connection 4Meg account, thinking R10 less for the Openweb Titan would not make much difference since I largely access the internet after-hours anyway. Boy was I wrong. The Titan account seems to have very sporadic shaping/throttling, here is an example:
I stream a YouTube video or Netflix show last night at around 19:00. The account seems to fluctuate between allowing 80-420KB/s, so Netflix quality is all over the place. I start a AceStream (torrent) to watch The Masters on SkySports 4 and it fluctuates between 0-100KB/s. The latter is acceptable, it is a torrent after all. The problem is that whilst the torrent stream open, Netflix is subjected to similar shaping/throttling. Close the torrent, Netflix's bandwidth shaping recovers to 80-420KB/s levels. I only got 300-400KB's+ after 23:40 last night on HTTP.

Some might say the above was due to the Openweb network being busy due to Windows Updates etc; the above has been happening since I signed up 13 March 2014.

The R260 Connection account didn't do this at all. If a torrent was throttled to 20KB/s it was still possible to get 480p Netflix (around 150KB's) but for the most part neither was throttled/shaped after hours in the week and over weekends, no matter what the star rating.

If you need an uncapped account to download mostly NNTP/Torrents 24/7 then the Openweb Titan is perfect, and I am not sarcastic in this regard. It runs circles around the Connection account (on 1 star) between 7:00 and 17:00 during the week.

Here in the north my AH account is at max speed all the time, so you see AH is functioning but is limited in the south region.

Well there's a reason most 2meg accounts are around the price of the 4Meg Titan.

You get what you pay for.

Off course. The point I was trying to get across is that not all cheapo uncapped accounts are equal. One needs to be very sure about your needs before you fork out the money, especially since Openweb have a calendar month notice to cancel policy.

You can upgrade to a better package like Gold mid month though.
