MWEB responds to consumers

How can they sell this product, when similar products are cheaper or for about the same price u can have 3 times that amount of data. How much does it cost mweb to produce that 1 gig to the customer R60?, R70?, R80? That’s a huge mark up. How can they justify this?

It's called marketing.

I wonder what time the MWEB employess go home ;)
lol yeah there's some mweb hardcores here. makes me wonder if they were conned into a contract or something, and to make themselves feel better they lash out at everyone else :D just kidding mweb folks, don't flame me please :)

Per gig billing opened the door for me to get out of the 12 month contract with M-Web. That is the only positive so far for me from the 1/11 changes. Ever tried to call M-Web's helpdesk. They are good competition for Telkom.

Hi

Been following this forum for some months now(only registered today).
Been on 384adsl for 3 months now, upgraded from 56k.For those who feel the 1G ADSL is to move 56k users...talk for yourself and not for them.I can do more on 56k than this 1G crap.I can stream radio(32k stream fine),i can download at night or weekends with the R7 plan, whatever i want...all i need is patience. When you move from 56k to 1g adsl you actually move backwards.

Now if somebody wants to pay extra for things he/she could get free it's mainly because they don't want to worry about it themselves.Their expertise are in other areas. They want the technology works for them, not to learn the technology. So if you ,the computer xpert got ripped off by a mechanic for something you could easily do yourself, does that make you stupid?

We all know broadband sucks in SA but i know they have 10g capped dsl in Belguim and in NZ too.Now the power lies in numbers,so embrace those "stupid" 1G ADSL users cuz you will need them in the fight for better broadband.

cheers

The point is that there are people who find value in these things.

People are just looking for excuses to BITCH.. again.. what a damn surprise.

You don't want them, don't use them, but YOU HAVE A CHOICE, so what's the ****ing problem here?

MAD not to slate you and sound bitchy, but I think ANYONE would find 1GB inadequate......!!!! as I said 34MB would get used in no time.....thats 4MB an hour working on 8 hours surfing........patches and virus updates would eat into that soooooo quickly, what about skype etc.
OK, you obviously know more than me about these things, and hence you're right. Aaaaaaall apologies. Would you mind going through the Hellkom site and mentioning to me anything you think is wrong? Thx.

Was think of adding my opinion to thread, but on second thought, whats the point ... over the next few months ...

- MWEB will make a killing from this offer
- Those in the industry with genuine insight & clout will continue focusing on the real problem, market competition
- Life in the real world will go on without the need to sponge a Gig a day of the net
- And most here will still be bitching about any company with a markup higher than PEP stores

Off to find a better thread.

Worse thing imaginable about hardcapping is account hacking, can u imagine how much people will pay with these auto booster accounts if it gets hacked?

Not to mention the hardcap accounts, no local access when someone else tap your account dry.

Its going to happen, and I feel sorry for these okes.

I don't understand how this is even debated? Its crap, period! Anyone with half a brain should be able to grasp that. MWEB, don't be so naive.

i like the carry forward account! Leave it running for hmm, lets say 40 months and then you can browse the net as much as you want, thats only 40 months, not long at all!

Other threads are slow tonight too, so I guess I will stoop to this ...

You got one thing right, I am on a small 1Gig cap (iBurst) and it does me just fine for the month.

I know exactly whats avaliable and possible on the net, but does that mean I want to do it all ... no. And theres far more ppl in SA like me than there are like you and the others whose primary thrill in life is to suck copious amounts of Gigs of the net.

At the end of the day regular ppl will vote with their wallets based on their perceptions of value and actual requirements, and no amount of ranting and raving on these forums will change this.

Funny perception people have, Just browsing the net with modern high bandwidth pages, music samples, video trailers, kids playing games takes a lot of bandwidth. That does not make people spongers. Its only your perceived attitude as you download your mails, read some news, spend all the other time on this forum that cannot make you see there is more to it. If you have kids that do a lot of other available things on the net then we can talk. Small bussinesses are they also spongers? Just a though. There has been a lot of talk on narrow mindedness on this forum, I can see where that comes from
Spongers? just because people have different needs? Maybe I read this wrong ?

Unfortunately at the end of the day regular people cant afford broadband in SA.

Still - If you'd listened to the most recent podcast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast) you'll have heard Dr Kelly state that a gig a day is considered normal, not copious, broadband usage. There may not be as many users like you as you believe - at least not voluntarily.

Do all of that on my 1Mbps, 1Gig iBurst and I rarely hit my cap.

No it doesnt, but if you dont think the motivation behind most of the rants in these forums revolve around ppl having a toll gate put on their highway to pornz, vidz and warez, then it is your perception that is out of alignment.

Ive been in the industry longer than you spent at school ... I truly understand the full potential of whats possible on the Net ... but just because I know what can be done, does not mean I want to.

And I think its the same for most non technically inclined people. They may know theres more they can do, they're just not interested.

Yep 2 boys in high school, and although they do use the Net, their priorities lie in cricket, their mates & chicks.

No but neither are they bums looking for handouts ... they're willing to pay for the appropriate service (e.g. uncapped) and for decent service.

Fully agreed. I am with Mweb Sat for 8+years now, if I remember correctly, long time tho. I like some of Mweb added features, BUT, you get those features purely because you have DSTV or other rlated group services anyway, where-ever you see the "sign me in" applet window. Mail services is normal for practically any ISP mail offering thus the so called "extras" do not really warant these overcharges

This must be the funniest thing I've read so far
Considering that people have been happy to pay R145 per month for dial access and they can now get faster speed and at least 5x the data capacity for the same price, why is this offer causing such an uproar in this forum?

It is possible to do way more than 1gb on 56k dailup...

Sure some people use more bandwith than others, BUT I've found that the faster the person's connection is the more the person wants to download. OR use higher quality streaming audio/video.

Seeing as your such a supported of the whole MWEB 1GB service. Why don't you sign up for it? As your obviously a low bandwith user :D

LOL no offense taken....not conned into a contract..part of the Tiscali take over.

I concede, the R145 is expensive....let's leave it there. The forum has far more important things to do than try and convince me ;)

Well it is quiet simple, this offer is only typical of what company's are used to and get away with for years, They can offer you **** and you will have thousands flocking to it and think they do you a service. This is typical ZA consumer mentality. That is why it is so easy to make huge bucks if you are an unscrupulous company.
