MWEB responds to consumers

AFAIK currently the best available 1Gig ISP is WebAfrica with their prepaid option at R75/Gig and can be top up at the same price. The big bonus is that any unused capacity is carried forward.
In comparision MWEB wants R145 plus topup at R90 with no carry forward
Seems way overpriced to me

How can they sell this product, when similar products are cheaper or for about the same price u can have 3 times that amount of data. How much does it cost mweb to produce that 1 gig to the customer R60?, R70?, R80? That’s a huge mark up. How can they justify this?

Natalie Thyer, general manager of MWEB home, said: “We believe that MWEB Home’s entry-level product for home users at only R145 is an incredible price!”
As if she's say otherwise!

Sure mweb has some nice reference things and the ipass affiliation is useful (though less so these days with a lot of hotels offering inclusive internet) but there are free alternatives available on the www. Lets face it r145 isnt that good for what you get.

Spam filtering - googlemail
Anti-virus - Mac :)
Parental control - if you dont supervise your kids on the internet yourself you're asking for trouble.

Spam filtering........set up rules on your Inbox or change your alias if it becomes that much of a problem, definitely not worth that bit extra.

Anti-virus......get a free antivirus program AVG comes to mind.

Paretal Control.......what about the adult users who do not have kids, they paying that for no use......

Also 1GB get used up pretty quickly, beside this being a joke. If you had to offer that in the UK, you would get laughed at, can you believe 1GB download cap, why bother!!!!!!

The point is that there are people who find value in these things.

People are just looking for excuses to BITCH.. again.. what a damn surprise.

You don't want them, don't use them, but YOU HAVE A CHOICE, so what's the ****ing problem here?

Mweb has the capital to market this, also they live on the ignorance of consumers.

Very profitable.

30 gigs at 3 grand would get you laughed at too, what's your point? EVERYTHING about broadband in this country is laughable.

Yah that's a huge plus.. a the moment people pay for unused bandwidth, and at the price bandwidth is now, carry-over is a massive advantage.

ok well no one is forcing anyone to use MWEB, there are options, and the people who make the decision as to what account to buy where will hopefully make the right decision. MWEB do offer numerous extras which, granted, not everyone may need, but many people are in the 'rather have and not need it than need it and not have it' crowd.

The R145 could move downwards, who knows.. maybe they're putting their elbow in the water to see what the response is, but to users other than ourselves (ourselves being more often than not the higher-cap purchasers), the 1GB may suitable.. not everyone downloads Stargate SG-1 and Lost episodes ;)

The whole rationale behind this is too move dialup subscribers off dialup and onto ADSL. More people on ADSL is to the benefit of this forum.

Agreed with you Munwaal that some forumites have turned this forum into an absoloute bitchfest.

1GB / 30days = 34MB a day.......how long will that take to use up......just doing a bit of surfing and the odd email with some attachment, and maybe updating my website!!!!!!!

This forum is a place for debate. Healthy debate. It seems, however, that aside from a bitch fest, things degenerate into personal attacks and ****-slinging.

If you can't take people not agreeing with you, rather just shut up. It's pathetic man, really. DEBATE people.

Yeh I worded that incorrectly.. what i was saying is that people like us here on the forum would find 1GB wholly inadequate, and so will a great deal of other people, but there are a few who would probably not even reach 1GB.. trust me, there are such people, which is why abroad you can even get 100, 250 and 500MB accounts.
