Are you slow? .. Because you have full line speed it means nothing. Seacom is down. Now go away.

Outage Num:7628
MWEB ADSL browsing outage affecting all regions
Based on the latest feedback we have received from Seacom this afternoon , it now seems likely that the repairs to their undersea cable will only be completed by Friday the 30th of April. The work is being severely hampered by poor weather conditions at sea. Whilst we have been able to secure alternative international bandwidth for the full duration of the repairs, there is some congestion on these links and it is affecting our service. Bandwidth-intensive applications such as peer-to-peer will therefore be de-prioritised until sufficient capacity once again becomes available. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may be causing you and thank you for your patience during this time. We will continue to monitor the situation on an ongoing basis and as and when we receive updates we will notify you via our Free The Web site and via our online outages noticeboard.

It means nothing???? OMG! Then what is the problem all about in the first place?? Noob. It was slow due to the maintenance and now it is not ... so wtf does that mean??

I have to agree with Schickelgruber on this one... seems it JUST came back up. Haven't tried MWEB connection but Afrihost is flying at the moment.

Yeah dude, mine just came back up as well which is why I posted in the first place lol.

Ok, what exactly do you guys mean by "down"?

I am yet to have a situation where I have been unable to access an international website. I am on IMDB, a few international news server sites, and the lighty is playing an online game as I type.

NO Mweb int still slow here....

Hang in there, I think MWEB will start-up soon as well. My connection is lightning fast, has never been this quick before ... ever. I think these are good signs!!! =D

They have probably heavily shaped torrent downloads!! Hence all the whining...

Down as in very slow connection to sites like YouTube and Online gaming eg. PSN or XBL. Sites such as facebook are just a tad slower but still fast. This was the impact of the maintenance. And it seems to be perfect now, well my connection anyway.

Sorry for bringing up this topic once again but I have a beef with some of the misleading information going on here. I've noticed that some users are being flamed for not knowing the difference between the Seacom cable and the SEA-ME-WE 4 cable.

Doing some scratching around I've noticed where a lot of this misleading comes from.

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/telecoms/12188-SEACOM-downtime-tomorrow.html

"SEACOM is scheduled to undergo repairs on Saturday 24 April 2010 to fix the affected fibre pair in the Mediterranean Sea"

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/telecoms/12208-SEACOM-still-down.html

"Many ISPs suffer with international bandwidth constraints as SEACOM maintenance takes longer than expected"

"According to an Openweb network notice the SEACOM international cable is still down for maintenance."

"An Afrihost notice from 10:00 today says that the SEACOM cable is currently offline for maintenance."

"We’ve been notified by Seacom that due to adverse weather conditions the repairs to the undersea cable are going to take longer than originally expected."

This misinformation or omission of facts comes from both the ISPs and MyBB staff writers. If you do some reading inside some of the articles you will find the correct information but some of the quotes and summaries are totally wrong. No wonder people are confused.

SEACOM posted a twitter update that some users are experiencing faster connection, people like me who are and originally posted that the network is back up again for some.
