MWeb using Telkom links instead of Seacom now?

SEACOM posted a twitter update that some users are experiencing faster connection, people like me who are and originally posted that the network is back up again for some.

Umm.. I think the topics we are on are unrelated. I was referring to some posts earlier in this thread, no worries ;)

Sorry for bringing up this topic once again but I have a beef with some of the misleading information going on here. I've noticed that some users are being flamed for not knowing the difference between the Seacom cable and the SEA-ME-WE 4 cable.

This misinformation or omission of facts comes from both the ISPs and MyBB staff writers. If you do some reading inside some of the articles you will find the correct information but some of the quotes and summaries are totally wrong. No wonder people are confused.

SEACOM is both a Company (people and contracts), and a piece of undersea cable. That explains a lot of the differences you refer to.

Oh! Sorry lol! But you are correct about the misinformation, I myself have been mislead by the ISPs:wtf:

MWeb using Telkom links?

Telkom owns nearly half of the communications infrastructure in SA, as well as a controlling interest in SAT-3/SAFE. Its been like that for years. Other than SEACOM (or satellite), there is no other way to connect to the internet at present...

Yeah, as I thought. Just confirming that we're not back on Seacom, as others were suggesting.

Well, MWEB and Afrihost still both po0ped here...

torrents aren't even moving. Websites like this one open fine, so does facebook and IMDB...

Well, torrents etc are heavily shaped. i.e. not moving... http on the otherhand....

Man you guys need to read. That's 4 pages of comments I've had to go through about the same stuff again. I explained all the differences between the cables earlier. Just read up. Seacom is still not working as the SEA ME WE 4 cable is still under repair. IS users will have a better experience at the moment because IS switched over to sat 3. Mweb we are still on the Seacom network, which as far as I know means we follow the seacom cable system to india, and get rerouted from there. One the SEA ME WE 4 cable is actually repaired, we will all know about it.

+1 :)

One would've thought that by now, world+dog would know about the Seacom issue - yet people still complain about international not working.

Not sure if this has been posted but the FTW Facebook page says that it may be fixed by midnight today ;)

Edit: see above, a minute earlier ;) I type too slowly :p

Based on the latest information to-hand the maintenance work on the Seacom undersea cable is now progressing well and there is a possibility that it will be completed ahead of schedule. The current estimate is around midnight on the 28th of April (tonight). Please note that these are estimates only and may change subject to weather conditions at sea etc.

In the interim, the alternative international bandwidth that we have secured gives us about 65% of our normal operating capacity. Whilst we had hoped to have full (100%) redundancy in place, our upstream providers have been unable to meet their original commitments. As a result, there will be congestion on our international links and bandwidth intensive applications such as peer-to-peer will, unfortunately, have to remain on a low priority until our full capacity is restored.
