MWEB seem to be ripping existing clients

I have had a MWEB account for yonks.

Presently have a 4Mbps capped ADSL all inclusive package, capped at 5GB, for which they are charging me R579 incl VAT p/month

Saw tonight on their website that a capped 10GB 4Mbps all inclusive package is now R549 inclusive per month

Thanks MWEB for looking after existing clients by charging a premium for half the cap.:mad::mad:
 
I actually cancelled my adsl with them at the end of last month. Have to give a months notice but guess what - the day after cancelling my line was down. After fighting with them on the phone i got over it and told them to just keep it im done with them - paid for the full month even though i didn't even have access to their network. They blamed Telkom and Telkom blamed them for the line down time.
 
Cap? That's something you put on your head, right?

Hi MactheKnife,

The difference between the two is that the 4Mbps ADSL all inclusive package capped at 5GB allows concurrent connections and the 4Mbps/10GB does not allow concurrent connections.

If you'd like to change over, it will only take effect the 1st of next month.

Hi Mac

I'm sorry to hear that you feel you're not getting good value for money. If we go back in time a little when we launched the uncapped products we did extensive analysis of our existing capped customer base with the aim of automatically converting anyone who would end up paying the same, or less for an uncapped product.

We also looked at the use of facilities such as concurrent connections (which the uncapped service does not offer) and based on this for any customer we could not automatically convert we sent them a communication notifying them of the new services and offering them the opportunity to convert themselves to uncapped.

If you're not currently making use of concurrent connections on your capped product then I would certainly recommend that you convert to an uncapped offering. If you are then it might still be worth your while to discuss your needs with one of our sales consultants and weigh up the benefits of using an uncapped account at your primary location and a cheaper capped one at the secondary site.

Please do let MWEB Guy know if you require such assistance and we'll arrange for someone to call and talk this through with you.

Why would you restrict the user on how many concurrent connections they want. its at the user's discretion on how they want to use it. it makes perfect business sense to always give the user the option. mweb should have been clever and allow it, so that the user will use up his cap quicker and buy more. donno how the peeps at mweb think.

i can understand uncapped, but restricting a user for 10GB.
 
@J0n0. There is nothing immediately obvious that I noted on their website about the concurrent connection difference. See also below. One would have thought if this was a key difference that it would be highlighted.

@Stevie G. Yep – doesn’t make much sense to me either (although I am not using concurrent connections).

@MWebGuy, Will@MWEB. Thank you for your inputs. I would point out however that on the Mweb webpage under products and pricing and options (http://www.mweb.co.za/productspricing/InternetAccess/ADSL/BasicHomeOffice.aspx), the fact that there is a difference in concurrency is certainly not obvious.

Under Choose your package, it states:

Option 1Data & ADSL line rental

*Excludes voice line rental
*Includes 4096 kbps ADSL line rental

Under “More about this product” it states:

What do I need?
An existing post-paid phone line (meaning: you get a phone bill at the end of the month).

Looking up the terms and conditions it states at clause 5:

CONCURRENCY
5.1 For most packages you may only have the following connections to the ADSL Service at any given time, unless otherwise agreed:
5.1.1 1 (one) ADSL connection; and
5.1.2 1 (one) dial-up connection (where applicable) (analogue or 64K ISDN only) at any given time.
5.2 Certain Capped Packages allow for more than one concurrent connection, please visit our Website for more information on the concurrency allowed on your selected package.

Where exactly on your website the concurrency is specified is certainly not obvious to me.

My usage does not justify the uncapped option (it would cost me more than I currently pay even with one or two top-ups a month), but would certainly benefit from a 10GB vs 5GB cap and especially at a cheaper rate.

I have not had a need to date for concurrency and in fact have set concurrency to 1 on my dashboard to limit any potential problems (I have concurrency because that was the default on the package, and whilst it may be useful at some point, I have not used it to date).

Whilst I do recall the offer to switch to uncapped (which I do not require at this stage) I have no recollection of any offer from Mweb to change to a capped package with different concurrency.

@OP: Easy to sort out. If you don't use the concurrent connections, let MWEB Guy know and from 01 October 2011 you'll be on the other package. One PM gets you another 6GB per month and saves you R30 per month.

You would think mweb have done their research and if you ask me if they allow 3 or 4 connections they could be supplying 2 or 3 people with internet who won't go over.

It can go either way. They could supply 10 people with internet actually. 1gb is enough for email and some light browsing. What the heck do people want with 10gb on a 4 meg line? Get a 1 meg line and more bandwidth.

how much is 1 meg uncapped with line rental?

Can't be worse than having to constantly reboot your router or take someone else's account when you have used your's to the point of congestion. How does someone on uncapped know what "light" browsing is and how much bandwidth it use ?

If I look at my stats for this month for my browser alone, the lowest amount for a single day was 42.69 meg. Taking that to 30 day use it ends up over 1 gig being 1280.7, this excludes emails...
