I want to congratualate MWeb is sucessfully deceiving their customers.
let me explain.

i have a 4meg uncapped account. i have known before i sign up that this is a shaped account, but i have never thought that it will be shaped into the ground.

so i did the speedtest thing, and got 4 meg. So my telkom portion is correct, and i know that i can also get 4 meg from my adsl account.

So i performed a download from EC Council website, and got 4k at night i got 20K
So i did a download from microsoft and got 60K
I did a download from tucows and got 21K
I then did a download form Raqpidshare and got less that 1k.

Over the last couple of days i did a couple of download tests, inside of my firewall and on the outside.
At the end i rteleased thaqt i have been deceived by MWeb.

and i would like to warn other internet users not to buy the Mweb ADSL home account.
This is my statement. --- MWeb will sell you a ADSL account, but you will NEVER get what you pay for !!!! ----

After i have called them thay blamed telkom. i then ended up calling saix who gave me a test account. On this test account i got 4 meg download speed, but downloading the same content with the mweb account, i got 2 k.

When i called Mweb again, i was told that they share "Fire Shareing sites". Yes , i understsand that you share them, but there is a difference in sharing them that it does not use up a lot of bandwidth and shaing them that they cannot be used.

In the Mweb case, they have shaped "File Sharing sites" and it now seems like general HTTP traffic into the ground.
Downloading a 20Meg file fromthe EC Counsil takes 3 Hours.

People be warned, You are going to waste your money if you move to MWeb.
"Mweb, the Compnay that deceive their customers into paying for something that thay will never get."

Needless to say, i have cancelled my Mweb account
 
They say they shape p2p... when they shape it people complain... Sigh.

Thing is, you interpret what their t&cs say about the product, all they need to say is shaped and you should understand that it is shaped, don't try and convince yourself that the shaping may be lax or anything else, just read what they say and take it literally. They said that it is not an account for mass downloading.

When I got the account I knew that p2p was going to be shaped and when I tried to download a free game via p2p it was going as 5kb/s... was I upset, was I angry, did I feel mislead? NO! I KNEW that it was shaped, I knew exactly what to expect. So I got myself a Downstorm account and it works fine.
 
not so here. 4meg uncapped going like a ****ing steamtrain.

I only have praises for MWeb. And for 500 clams a month, exceeded my expectations.

just a matter of time before their automatic shaper flags downstorm as a mass downloading source like rapidshare IMO
 
As it is clearly stated in my mail, that i have a ADSL home account.
my Mweb account is a 4 Meg account..
Mweb will shape any site that share files, youtube, rapidshare ... and all the other.
I do not download torrents , i do download ISO's of operating systems.
I expect torrents to be shaped, but normal HTTP (port 80) downloads.

I have a 4 Meg Telkom account and with my Mweb 4Meg ADSL home account, to download a distro of 1 Gig will take anyting from 1 1/2 day to 2 days.

Even a download from Youtube will take 2-4 hours.

You have to ask what exactly the account is for. If P2P is out, games are out, and every thing else is shaped out of existence like RS, then why would you want uncapped browsing??
 
Many of us knew this from the start... just by reading the Terms and Conditions. That is why we have avoided these accounts like the plague.

We tried to warn people from day one.

And even if you manage to find a way to buck the system... Mweb is waiting in the background to cut you off for "abusing" the account.

Time to get a real uncapped account. This is not it.
 
So where exactly would you get an account that is actually worth getting - games, youtube, facebook, rapidshare

There is no one account that can do all that... unless you get a business uncapped account for several thousand rand a month.

If you want to do heavy downloading, then get an IS Uncapped Express+ (After hours) account.

If you just want browsing, then obviously these mweb accounts will suffice.

None of them are really good for gaming... that is because we are on the bottom of a whole different continent to the rest of the world.

Hopefully we will have many more options by the end of the year with two more cables live in the mix.

Terms, they are a changing!

You forget that promises were made at the beginning and then swiftly forgotten. As many people will testify, MWEB were better months ago. Even if we look past the terrible downtime they've had on every Friday they have deteriorated the service quite considerably over that time.

Ja, no doubt... but I actually expected it to be that bad from the start.
 
why do certain 4mb users have no bad speed issues? My friend in strandfontein never has issues.
 
No, it is a company that has a history of ripping off consumers with exorbitant internet access fees (Check internet access fees article on MyBB a few months ago) that has never invested in any infrastructure and paid their CEO's exorbitant fees and was loosing clients at an alarming rate that thought about a quick fix by offering an uncapped internet access account, that do not know how to solve the issues they are currently experiencing...
