MWEB + THE WEEKEND = FAIL

where did you get that figure from?

3 to 4 times is probably a VERY conservative figure..

You want 5 9's uptime with guaranteed speeds on a fully redundant network? I would expect that kind of service to cost in excess of R20k per month.

I always appreciate your comments, but MWeb DO have a small amount of SAT-3 capacity. The question is why none of us (on this forum at least) are seeing any of it?

Code:
Tracing route to newswww.bbc.net.uk [212.58.226.79]

Trace complete.

Thats actually... very very interesting...

Here is my guess as to what is happening with what you see above:

Mweb's BGP goes down because of the SEACOM failure, so they follow a default route onto Telkom's network.
Telkom in turn follows a default route out of SAT-3 to London
However, MWEB routes are probably still being announced out of London, hence, the return traffic comes back to THEM, and then can't return into the network.

Just because Telkom is pointing them via a default to London does NOT mean they have purchased capacity on SAT-3, it merely means there is a routing issue, and more so on the SAIX side than the Mweb side.

Note: this is just a guess based on what you are seeing there, there could be a couple of other reasons for this, but that would be a first glance analysis using what I know about BGP and Internet routing

Then f ucking change your upstream provider. How many times has Mweb gone down this month?

twice if my memory serves me correctly.

And yes, lets get them to change their upstream provider to SAIX then your precious R539pm account will no longer exist because mweb's costs will skyrocket.

Mweb themselves have NOT gone done.... There upstream provider has had a network failure, therefore mweb themselves are NOT at fault here... ffs. How hard is this concept for you people to understand.

We do understand it, but we pay mweb, no-one else. If the people they use have a problem, they must not let it affect their users.

tudorc : if you have an issue that Mweb's upstream provider has had a network failure and wish to blame Mweb, then please just cancel and move to another provider who will probably have the same sort of issues.

You have been ANC'ed! ur the type of moron that dont mind to get butt f@#$@ed because youre used to it. Or do u work for MWEB?

EVERY CUSTOMER HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN AND NO EXCUSES IS ACCEPTED TO BE PASSED AS A LEGIT REASON FOR YOU TO PAY FOR NOTHING, if you pay a hooker for not even any service, thats ur problem. MWEB can atleast pick up the phone and say we are aware of the problem we have contacted your usptream provider and is working on the problem. period.

This is why this country is going to hell, customers are treated as trash, and guess what, they are getting away with it... comon u know what i am talking about...

My point of view is, im paying R550 for crap, to have a crap week tired of stress from work, wana play some wow, hon, watch trash on youtube. then i get this, comon, what have i, and you done to deserve this? So we have the right to complain, to enshure that MWEB get on the case of SEACOM!

Am I not clear enough?.. and btw if I you wana complain about some one complaining, your an hyppocrit! STAY OFF FORUMS PLZ

How on gods green wonderful earth should Mweb not let a network failure on their primary route affect their users?.. must they hire people to run with the network packets now?

Okay, so its been 2 and a half hours down right? Half an hour to fix it apparently? No... not going to happen. *Gets ready for a night out on the town in 4 degree weather*

Where did you hear that? I"d like to see someone fix a broken fiber cable in 30 mins!

You get what you pay for.

Can you tell me which part of the service they are not providing?

You have an ADSL account which you can login to..... therefore they are providing the service.

There are no SLA's in place because you are not paying the kind of money that would warrant an SLA being feasible for Mweb.

Pedantic and obtuse. But I get your point. Do you work for Mweb?

Sorry man, it doesnt fly with me, if you cannot have a network that is stable then dont sell it. How will these guys operate when the CPA kicks in? they have to guarantee uptime.

I think thats what everyone here complaining fails to understand..

I'm pissed off with Mweb, but I know this is beyond their control so no point in going off all half cocked and threatening to cancel and blah blah blah

That is not my problem. If I want to buy sugar from spar, I go tho spar, if they don't have sugar I will complain. I don't care if the truck carrying the suger drove off a hill, I want sugar... I don't care how mweb should make sure it doesn't happen, they must just do it.
the client is always right...

So it is fine paying R500+ each month, but the service is down a couple of days per month?

biggest prob is ppl are lazy and never learned how to read
as far as i know they have said about 4 hours till repairs are done but they are gonna try and make a plan to get there users back online before that ( they are trying its not like they can just pull a line out there ass and say here you go)

Then they'll guarantee uptime on THEIR network, not their upstream providers network.. welcome to the wonderfully complex world of the internet.

Its not pedantic or obtuse, its reality.
No, but I seem to have a better understanding of how the internet is put together and how much infrastructure of this nature costs in this country than you do.
