hey gary thanks for all the info... i ordered the line and getting the 512 option.

Latency test to the UK done at 7:45 p.m.

My experience is that it's good enough for SIP 64kbps VoIP (my VoIP provider is in the UK) and I've had 4 concurrent channels chattering away with no issue.

So far, the service has been flawless. There is definitely shaping but I'm not a torrent/p2p user so I don't seem to be effected.

Let's see if they can keep this up. So far, really, really positive that they've got this together. I guess they must have got a HELL of a deal from Seacom....

WebAfrica must be ***king themselves. Not surprising they're coming up with that response. That's what I love about the free market - ultimately the product and the consumer wins. The inefficient don't survive.

As soon as telkom install my damn phone line I'm going to give this a try. 100gb a month should do the trick.

What's with all the issues around raping bandwidth, investing in mega terabyte drives?
Uncapped means you can get what you want anytime, anywhere withouth having to store all the crap on a local drive or going overboard on bandwidth.
For once we will be able to actually make use of unlimited online storage which is widely available for free.
For the time being I think I'll stick with Telskommel until I've moved house in May - fairly stable and good speed although only limited bandwidth...
If they don't have a viable, stable alternative by then, I might just make the switch.

Ja, Astraweb is the best for grabbing what you want. You can get an account with them for around R80

Looks like a good deal. I"m thinking about getting the 512k with the line rental etc. The only thing about Mweb is their tendency to limit your choice if, for instance, they discontinue the uncapped option. Would you then be able to get an Afrihost account whilst still renting the line from them? I'm thinking about those locked in routers of theirs, it's the only thing that concerns me about this. As far the terms are concerned, I don't think they would object if you downloaded around 50-60gigs a month, which would suffice for most of us, especially if you torrent after hours. No problem whatsoever with that.

I'm wondering if MWEB are ready for what is about too happen.
Can they handle the load that is going to come?

I think I'll sit back and watch for a month or so... And well, after my jumping and running to the NEW Neotel - hell, I've learnt my lesson.

Besides; if MWEB can offer this, I'm sure others can offer it too (especially in a month or so now that they have let the hat outta the bag)

bottom line for me...IS Express fibre acc account from Axxess - unshaped and no damn fine print. They TELL you what you're getting without going to market with some fancy offer, only to get exposed later that it's shaped beyond repair!! You pay for what you get! I think we've all been burnt by these super cheap offers - it's just not feasible yet in SA - ISP's will go out of business :(

shees, where'd all the noobs come from? mweb employee clones? :)
oh well, i have to say it DOES look like a good deal, even puts some pressure on afrihost. but it's way too soon to decide (least for me) and i can't just forget the past

am seriously thinking of changing over to MWeb.....nearly a R100 cheaper....:D

do you have to use their modem if you have already got one.......
