MWEB uncapped ADSL: Cool facts

Wow, from 0 own network traffic to larger than IS in 12 Months, impressive!:D

Well Done MWEB!!!:D

For me, the internet is a much happier place thanks to MWeb. No more having to split local and internation. No more waiting till the end of the month before I download. No more having to find local alternatives because my international is finished. Oh and no more having to worry about going over the local cap. They deserve all the props.
Big ditto!

My wondering is just with this massive increase in traffic can telkom's network actually handle it

It's always fascinating to see network statistics from ISP's. It will be even more interesting to see what they are in a year's time, as more people sign up, more people get adsl and so forth. Wonder how other ISP's are doing.

2 Petabytes. So if they have 100 000 uncapped users, that is 20 GB average per user. This probably includes the business accounts, so the average is much less for home users. Would like to know the average usage for home uncapped accounts !

Also what would be even more interesting, is to know how the average usage increased after uncapped was introduced.

+1 Been with them since they launched, i pull around 50-60gb on my 4mb uncapped per month (this month being the exception +- 80gb) and i have yet to experience problems.

Only issues was seacom, and that seemed to stabalise now.

I have a 10mb telkom line and i sync @ about 8(if i use WA), and my downloads with mweb is a constant 430 - 480 kb/s, that is peak and off peak.

Not sure if i am one of the lucky ones, but i am LOVING my MWEB account.

My Openweb Gold 384k is getting around that mark too. AFAIK that is mweb- might be wrong there though...

not being a hater or anything... ive been with mweb uncapped since they started uncapped and while its nice not to worry about caps the service i received has been full of problems and is getting progressively worse. i cant tell if telkom is responsible now, but dealing with both mweb and telkom i cant get any anyone to take responsibility. i pay my line rental to mweb though so they should be looking after me. theres a widespread, long running issue with high latency now. im sitting with 180ms local ping most of the day. 2mbps downstream. this is nowhere near as nice as my old 384k line with prepaid usage.

im not saying mweb are responsible for the issue, just that the last time i had a problem-free adsl line was before i switched to mweb. it also seems like the over-all line quality in south africa is degrading as traffic usage increases, affecting people in areas of high concentration of 4-10meg lines and uncapped accounts.

Impressive - and IS wanted to buy them at one stage - seems MWEB will be buying IS soon... lol

Anyone know how we can get a copy of Rudi's presentation from the Conference?

When did Jensen join MWeb? I can't think of any other company that has accomplished such a massive turn-around, although Cell-C appears to be pushing boundaries as well. I used to despise MWeb - they were the over-priced ISP that just seemed to take advantage of people unaware of what else was out there. Now they're leading the way and totally changing people's expectations and perceptions regarding broadband.

agree!
