MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Just queued two nzb files for today. Going great at 105kb/s. So the trend is holding true.

Must just mean that the NNTP servers are overloaded early night./evenings.

@MWeb Guy

Does this simply mean that the Uncapped ADSL network is perfectly fine however the NNTP servers (news.mweb.co.za) are currently being over utilized?

Good question.

Just for my understanding - I also use Astraweb, so whilst I might not get great speeds from news.mweb, Astraweb should pick up the slack, but as last night was so slow, I am assuming that it is more shaping in account linked to bandwidth issues. Is that a correct / fair assumption?

Just checked my DL's at home whic started about 7 and all running full steam; guess the shapers work after hours only!!

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it.

I will come back to you reading your question about the servers being overloaded, will need to do a bit of running around (losing weight in the process) and then provide you with feedback.

MWeb Guy

I just received an email from MWEB:

Thank you for contacting MWEB Customer Care, your reference is [REF# 20121025001707]; please do not delete this reference number from the subject of this email.

What is this about? I haven't communicated with MWEB in months.

Hi waz77710

I would like to look further into why you are getting these speeds. PM me the MWEB email address or customer number.

Download Speed: 3463 kbps (432.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 265 kbps (33.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 40 ms

But it's nowhere near that. Browsing is slow and pathetic on Mweb today. Is something up MwebGuy?

Hi teraside

Browsing local or international that you are struggling with?

Hi Freaker

The MWEB News server has always a best effort experience as there are a finite amount of resources you can commit to a free news feed. I've been actively monitoring my own experience on an Astraweb connection to see how NNTP is performing in general at the moment. Speeds last night and the night before were well inside the range I'm used to seeing (400KB/s ++).

Speeds did drop off heading towards 08h00 this morning, but you would expect this and it's currently graphing at around 350-375KB/s, which I think is excellent for daytime NNTP.

With regards to NNTP it is a best effort and contended service. More info in post above from Will.

Read Will's post. So... why am I still getting between 30-60kbps every night (weekends too) since the beginning of this month? (2mb line) I am also with Astraweb. Before, 200+ was the norm. I have posted several times, but have yet to receive a resolve on the matter. At one point you mentioned that you did something to my account and that I should reboot the router and test. Did that, posted the negative result, but I am still throttled to anything between 30-60kbps every night between 5pm & 11:30pm. Last Friday night, all I could manage was 30kbps. I had to buy capped data from Afrihost to finish an 800mb download in time to still be able to watch it. That went at 220kbps constant. I do not download in the day, so have no problem with throttling in the day. But weekend and evening speeds are not what they used to be. I should not have to resort to buying extra services to do what my Mweb account should do. Surely?

Hi All

Please be advised that our Network engineers will be carrying out some maintenance in Cape Town tonight starting at midnight for approximately 5 hours.

The Network will be running at reduced capacity during this time, which will mainly impact on peer 2 peer traffic.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during this time.

We do not throttle.

How is your normal HTTP downloads and actual speed test results?
