MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Hi,

So I've been keeping an eye on the forums to see if I'm the only one with my current issue and now I see I'm not, while I don't play StarCraft I do play WoW and since last Wednesday I have noticed lag spikes which have been unusual, either it becomes unplayable or I'm getting disconnects.

Everything else browsing, downloads are fine. That's why I found it quite odd that all of a sudden I should be experiencing these issues when for maybe the past year or so my latency has been almost perfect for the 384 line speed I'm on.

Been putting off phoning MWEB, hopefully this will give enough attention if there is a problem :)

Thanks

Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this?

I have escalated this to our games master.

@MWEB Guy
Are these figures correct? Will the current R339 Jump to R487.37?
Looks like they took all-inclusive instead of data-only.

Hi Awesum

I checked the account and line. The line readings are a bit irregular. Attenuation is very high. I would suggest contacting Telkom, have them re-create the port and investigate what is causing the attenuation to be that high as well.

I've logged another fault with Telkom.

Busy running the 4mb Uncapped trial accounts and I am highly impressed!

MWEB Guy
How long will it take to reconnect my MWEB account again ? I`m running back with my tail between my legs. I cancelled a month ago to join the "cheaper alternative".... and I got what I paid for.

MWEB Guy,

I'm currently on 384kbps all inclusive. Will it be possible to upgrade to 1Mbps all inclusive? Waiting too long for Telkom.

Good Afternoon eyc, inbox me your details and your previous MWEB email address and I will see what I can do for you.

Good Afternoon peeryus, I can request a upgrade to 1mb all inclusive on your behalf. However please be aware that it will cost R488.00.

Thanks for your reply. Please clarify as to why new customers pay R339/month but existing customers pay R488/month?

peeryus, please refer to the following post by Will that may shed some light on the situation.

I agree completely this interim period has created a lot of customer confusion, not just for us but for all ISPS and it is very frustrating, but it's one of those devil and the deep blue sea situations.

As soon as Telkom announced the upcoming changes our customers were extremely eager to know how these changes would affect our product offerings.

We also had to deal with the fact that up until very recently the Telkom timeline on the upgrades was still reasonably vague and there was an expectation that 384k lines could move to 1mb in August as well.

We also had to ran some massive batch scripts to update the profiles on all our existing 384k products to make them 1mb capable. These are not changes you can run in a single evening and there are timing constraints as to when in the month you can do this.

Ultimately what we didn't want though was to end up in a situation where lines started getting upgraded and the legwork had not been done on our side to ensure that all our customers could immediately benefit from this.

So did we jump the gun a bit?

Perhaps so, but we haven't done so in a way that has any financial impact on our customers and our intention was simply to make sure that all our products and customers were ready to roll as soon as their speed upgrades kick in.

Yes the cheaper R339-00 product is there already and it is 1mb ready on MWEB's network, but it still provisions with a 384k line until Telkom update the speed profiles on that rental package.

The 1mb guys paying R488-00 will unfortunately have to stay there for a little while longer before they can move in one direction or the other.

Dropping to the package with the lower line rental effectively puts you on a '1mb ready' line and as of right now it's not yet possible to provision a 2mb line on Telkom's systems.

Rest assured that we share your sentiments and frustrations on this interim period and if there was a fast forward button to take us all to the end of October where everything made sense again we would happily press it

Kind Regards
Will

Thanks Will , that does pretty much clarify things in my mind.

Still no word from the gaming guru as to why we experience an outage on Battle.net?

Good Evening MyWorld, the gaming team could not replicate the latencies you have obtained.

Are you obtaining similar latencies when playing other games?
