MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Shaping though shouldn't absolutely kill a service. The problem is that the overall quality has dropped in that before you would connect but receive (rightly so) a shaped speed. I don't think anyone contests that part. The main issue is not that the speed has dropped, in fact if a tracker has already provided a seed/peer list everything works perfectly fine. The issue is that the trackers themselves, a lot of which are http trackers i.e. it is connecting over the standard 8080 port, are timing out or for a variety of reasons, simply not returning the required data.

It may though be just another function of the Skype issue + latency issue (http browsing was poor, http downloads weren't)

The story with Skype is getting on my nerves and causing me problems at work.
Mweb guy any ETA to solve the problem or we should better look for anther ISP ?

Same here. This is a massive ****up - I absolutely need Skype in order to keep in contact with my clients.

Please give us an update. THis is a problem on both my work AND home internet. (Both using the 1mb service)

Moved from Openweb's '4mbps Uncapped Lite' promotional account to Mweb's 4mbps uncapped in December. 3 months in, as expected based on the experience I'd gotten on a friend's 2mbps uncapped connection+account on the other side of town, things have been drastically better on this Mweb account than they were on the Openweb account in the last year or so.

Daytime speeds for Youtube video downloads are around 200kb/s minimum on average, sometimes getting right up to line speed. HTTP downloads are often a minimum of 180kb/s, again sometimes up to line speed. Latencies to Europe are around 200ms on average versus the 280ms+ I got with Openweb, despite the guys at Openweb trying to convince me it would be impossible for me to get a better lantecy from Napier (and despite the fact that when we first moved out here I got 180ms to Europe with Openweb).

In the almost three months we've been with Mweb we've had roughly 5 hours of 'downtime' or 'issues' as a result of a recent break on the SEACOM cable. This contrasts quite favorably to the issues we had with Openweb even when SEACOM wasn't to blame. Specifically, for whatever reason, I would frequently need to reset our session just to get reasonable speeds and latencies with our Openweb account. I haven't had to do that with our Mweb account once.

We may be paying more now - well, actually less since we transferred over during their first-two-months-free promotion - but it's worth it in my opinion.

I have to get my port recreated at least once a week with MWEB. My IP keeps moving out of range to 41.... instead of 163... This is an isseu according to MWEB tech support.

Sorry, what's this issue with 41.x.x.x ip range? Mine is in the 41.x.x.x range while the dns servers are in the 163 range. Is this possibly the cause of my problems with torrent trackers?

Note: when I enter the wrong password for my mweb ADSL login I get an ip in the 163 range and can still access mweb. Co. Za

Good MOrning

The IP range should not have any effect on your experience.

41.x.x.x has been my regular range for my uncapped account for ages. Nothing wrong there.
My dns servers are:
197.80.80.80
196.28.182.20

Bumped since no response from Mweb.

I have sent your feedback to our network team and I am awaiting a response from them.

Still having youtube problems. Will it ever be like it was before all the new throttled accounts became available?

Mweb Guy

Is there a problem on Mweb's network

My international speeds from astraweb have dropped from 400kb to 5kb....

Downloading a 200mb Geforce driver (international) is also ridiculously slow at the moment.. getting 60kBps on my 10mb line (was between 500kBps and 1mBps this afternoon)

Same here, I seem to be stuck at a max speed of 35kbs on a 1mb line. NZB's are dead and Twitch can't stream properly at those speeds at 360p.

Having issues as well P2P downloads dead, Skype keeps disconnecting and reconnecting...Skype Calls drop...

Def something up with MWEB.

Hi All

We have no reported issues on our network or with international speed.

@Space_Cowboy - our team is look at the Skype issue, they are aware of that and working on it.

Hey MWEB Guy

Opposite problem to usual, my torrents are running like a train but YouTube and any other video streaming is completely stuffed, has taken me 15min of buffering to get to 2.48 on a video on 240p. Could you take a peek please...

EDIT:- that's just YouTube open and nothing else

I've been having youtube problems for close to 3 days.

All the other sites open perfectly, it's just youtube. It takes ages to load the page, and ages to load the thumbnails and ages to start the video, then it buffers for a few minutes.
