MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

It puts a smile on my face to know that I'm not the only one getting these speed issues, just a whole bunch of frustrated people lol. I've been having this problem since December and thought it's festive season it might clear up but that's a no go. It actually got worst! I can't even save webpages. Downloaded a pdf this afternoon and took +5 minutes and file was only 100kb, I checked netlimiter and there where a few processes popping up now and then to access network or internet but nothing heavy, it was still non-existent internet. This is actually worse than dial-up. I've been very happy with MWEB and actually recommended it to others but now.....

Anyway, I've already formatted my pc and reinstalled windows and just the web browsers, antivirus and firewall after trying other stuff, but no change. What do I do next other than shooting myself in the foot? that sounds painful maybe I'll just shoot someone else in the foot.

Same problem here this last week. My 4MB Uncapped has been dog slow. Most speedtests run at 1.07Mbps down and 0.30Mbps up with a ping of 80... to a local server. SAIX Speed test yields no better nor does the MWEB speedtest.

I phoned MWEB's call center today and the lady on the phone said there seemed to be no issues on the account, and because its the premium uncapped with MWEB handling the ADSL line, there was no throttling in place...

The speedtests are horrible, my gaming ping starts awesome and just degrades slowly, local and international wise, which is just unacceptable. They tried a port reset but that didnt help much. When I got home the speedtests improved to 2.5Mbps but have now degraded below 1Mbps again. I have tried 3 different modems, flushed everything, reconfigured the modem from scratch, tried new phone cables, other PC's and nada. Trace Routes also time out after a while or the latency is impossible.

Had nothing but great service from MWEB but now it seems a number of people are having issues. Im not sure if this is a Telkom issue or an MWEB issue but it is frustrating. Literally 1 week ago I was getting 450k solid and latency was 100%... now its like being on dial-up...

Logged into WoW... started with a ping of 165 which is my norm... and I have watched it slowly climb to 450 now... and there is NOTHING else on the network, nothing downloading, and a friend next door on the same exchange with Afrihost sitting with his ping stable at 200....

Why MWEB why...

Hi WickedMONK3Y

Please send me your MWEB email address or customer number and I'll see what needs to be done to get this fixed and what the actual root cause is of your internet experience.

With regards to your friend having good pings, is he definitely on the same exchange? Not all clients are experiencing slow speed issues as everyone's setup is different.

The notion that a Network is problematic after a tracert give timeouts, does not necessarily mean there is a problem on the server or it's not responding. It could also mean that the route after a certain hop is not set to respond to ping request.

Please also provide me with the test results and I'll read through it.

Hi DeclaredInsane

Lets rather network troubleshoot what the root cause could be before shooting yourself in the foot :-)

What was the results of your ping test & tracert?

Streaming from Twitch has been absolutely dreadful the past couple of days. Lagging on 360p on a 4mb line and account. Anyone else have the same issues? I was watching 720p with no issues not so long ago.

Watching two MLG streams on 720p with very little lag.

Mweb was so erratic and slow late last night that I couldn't even get downloads going. This was from somewhere between 12 and 1.

Mweb Guy whats up with Mweb's Network?

Hi Hummercellc

There is no issues on our network. I checked on our side and everything is fine. Power down the router for 5 minutes and monitor after that.

Youtube has come back from the grave for the last couple of weeks with very good sustained performance (Cape Town). Did a few small torrents here and there and they seem to be cut back more than before, but I can live with that. Opened up Steam for the first time in a few months (like that is a good idea) and between that and Windows Updates the line is maxing out.

Speedtest shows correct speeds, but Steam has difficutly starting, and once started games have difficulty syncing with the Steam cloud. Tired my Afrihost 1GB free account no issues at all?? Its not my connection or router, as both accounts would then have the same problems.

These are the only reported issues we know of at the moment. See our network status page for information.

Mweb something is wrong, Speeds are terrible, Switched to Afrihost account and get my normal line speeds..... (2.8 - 3.6MBPS)

Mweb Speedtest JHB.
Last Result:
Download Speed: 864 kbps (108 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 392 kbps (49 KB/sec transfer rate)

Nothing else is connected to the modem, I am not downloading anything in the background, Same Line, Same Modem, Same Laptop.

Mweb 4meg account = Under 1meg
Afrihost 4meg account = 3megs+

It almost feels as if I have a 1meg account on a 4meg line.

Xander8807, Bryn26, Bar_Rat, dasco144, DeclaredInsane, WickedMONK3Y, sybertiger & I are all telling you the internet is slow....

Time to cancel and move along, Mweb has been up and down for 3 weeks now!

Good Afternoon PurSpyk!!, I have checked your account and I can't find anything wrong with the account itself. I have changed a setting on the account though, please also change your username realm to @mweb.co.za. This will force a new IP connection.

Please let me know if the problem continues.

Good Afternoon,

I have logged a technical call back for you in order for us to try and identify the problem.

The earliest call back time was for Monday, I have requested a earlier time-slot and I am awaiting feedback on whether it is possible or not.
