MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

However, all I've seen in this thread since Friday when it all went South is a repeat of the original statement. NOWHERE has there been a response to the hundreds (yes, I counted them), angry customers asking why you have no redundancy/backup plan. You guys are the biggest provider in the country and you have left ALL your users out in the cold. Not Acceptable. Sorry, not good enough.

+1

You tell them Any14!

Been wondering this the entire weekend.

I'm currently on the 1mb uncapped for R199. I see on the website this is marketed as unthrottled while the 2mb one for R239 may be throttled.

I don't want to upgrade to the 2mb only to find my speeds being worse than 1mb because of throttling... anyone have experience of this or advice?

Dude, didn't you read about the latest SEACOM outage?

Hi Bar_Rat

We are currently running on reduced back capacity therefore is the internet experience degraded.

With respect, this is not actually the case. Slow I can tolerate when SEACOM is down. Google searches taking MINUTES to open, pages never loading, downloads of BITS per second, is simply not acceptable. Slow would be fantastic right now.

Ironic that I get full 4mbit/s on NNTP downloads, but HTTP crawls in at bytes per second IF the pages even load... Seems TOTALLY backwards to me...

VERY much "reduced back capacity" to the point of unusable. Redundancy does not seem to be working.

This is exactly the problem. We can accept and understand "degraded" performance when SEACOM is down. We cannot accept or tolerate, effectively, NO performance when SEACOM is down.

My advice, cancel you accounts. MWeb did nothing when the last Seacom disaster struck and their stance on the whole thing seems exactly the same as it was back then, poor MWeb Guy is stuck in the middle as well, with no real solution to present us. Move to someone else and try to get a instant cancellation without the obnoxious 30 day notice. Stop wasting your time and ruining your weekend/week trying to complain to a company that isn't interested, all the talks is $ these days so take yours somewhere where it is better used.

Mweb Guy,

Why don't you just answer us why loading mweb.co.za takes 4 to 5 mins on the mweb account? The accounts area takes maybe 10 to 20 retry's before working?

Look I have put up with a lot of horsecr@p from your company for years now, I have given up gaming online to a large extent because of your management or rather "shaping policies" on games.

The last 2 months youtube has been absolutely horrible for me, with 3 emails sent to support at mweb about it with no reply not to mention all the complaints here on the same issue I am starting to think that premuim uncapped does not mean you may watch youtube.

Now I know seacom is down, fine but youtube is actually working better for me that it has for months but no websites internationally will load correctly.

I am paying the equivalent of a down payment on a car to download 1.5tb in 12 months and you can not even afford me the courtesy of a agreeable service during downtime. I am leaving mweb this month , it is long overdue and I have a feeling I am not alone.

Where do you advise us to move too?

Just logged in using my new R24 1GB prepaid Afrihost account. Like a different world now -- pages actually load ...

Yay -- the 2.5MB MP3 podcast which I could NOT download on MWEB, has just downloaded nice and fast :)

Does the Afrihost Business plan abide to their AUPs?

There is no AUP as such. It's throttled to 50% if you exceed 65% utilisation per seven day rolling window. That's an insane amount of data. Data hogs need not apply.

Also:
- unshaped during office hours
- priority customer support
- preferential after hours bandwidth

It's worth mentioning that Afrihost has an excellent Android app and the best line management facility of any ISP.
