Hi then you need to open that incident on your network status page again

Saying that its closed is not really accurate is it

Thanks for the quick reply

Yesterday after 9:00PM streaming finally wasn't bufferring. Today after 9:00PM it is again.

With only a 1Mb line and relatively less intensive requirements, for the first time in a week I can report near-normal speeds.

Thanks to the Afrihost backup, I was able to retain reasonable connectivity.

I hope MWeb and their suppler Seacom will use this experience to implement a more robust redundancy plan.

As sure as nuts, Seacom will go down again and, if the experience is repeated, it could well spell the end of MWeb as we know it. I will certainly be cancelling if this happens.

whats going on with youtube streaming? Doesn't Mweb run a youtube server in south africa?

Hi

Please state which downloads you are referring to as not all downloads are the same.
I have found all international HTTP download are not working anywhere close to my full line speed. Download speeds are more like an 8th of my line speed. This is like 12.5 percent of the speed I normally get on my 1Mps line . So instead of around 115KB/s I get 14KB/s.

Here is a 400Mb file I am downloading now after 10:00PM at night which IE says will take 9 hours + at 14 KB/s. I am on the standard R199 1Mbps uncapped account
http://media.ch9.ms/ch9/53c9/6edc9cf8-1dd5-4f96-be1b-806efce753c9/CSharpJS01_mid.mp4

Same problem occurs with international HTTP sites zip and rar files

I paused the download and switched ISP account to an Axxess trial account in my router and my download speed for the exact same file increases to my full download capacity.
Youtube videos also don't bufffer at all after switching accounts where it buffers badly on mweb.

By switching and comparing different ISP speeds on the same line I eliminate all variables outside the ISP such as congestion, line and exchange problems.

Yesterday after 9:00PM my mweb account speeds and youtube streaming only became normal. The day before only after 7:00 PM. Today it is now after 10:00PM and my speeds are not normal yet and youtube is buffering. This shows a clear trend that the network is either worsening or your engineers are just playing around turning off the shaping/throttling later and later.

I am on Mweb's Premium Uncapped ADSL 1Mbps product and getting not 20%, not 90% but 12.5% of my line speed for international downloads.

Why is Youtube soooooo crap? During Seacom outage it was 100% now it's rubbish!

@MWEB, I like your service, but I am going to be cancelling because I want to upgrade to 2mb and your throttling is not cool, and therefore I am going to be trying out Web Africa.

I want to get my daily fix of YouTube videos and it's loading slower than a snail after a spliff.

If MWeb feels it needs to shape/throttle users then for us night owls they at least need to tell use when they turn it off at night as they are not consistent in times over the past couple of days which just leads to frustration on our side.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Relax. It will come back to normal like it has every night the past couple of days. Just tell me when so I can switch back to my MWeb Account when it does.

Be helpful please.

Just tried downloading that file with IE9 (no download manager) it finished in 27mins, mweb 4meg uncapped premium account here.
It averaged 312KB/s (2.5Mbps) not full line speeds but still ok......

If I use a download manager I get 487KB/s (3.8Mbps) It downloaded in 18mins.....

And youtube is flying on my end, 480p buffering well ahead here?

Maybe I am just lucky, But I do have a theory that Telkom are prioritizing TelkomSA accounts over other ISP's at exchange level.

Reason I say this is, when I get slow speeds (every now and again) I switch between Afrihost (MTN), Mweb & WebAfrica, they are all slow at the same time, let place my TelkomSA account in my router and it fly's.....

Extremely slow intl. browsing, trying to download some course content hosted on amazonaws - 5-10kb/sec

what's going on? Nothing listed for my area (NE JHB) in the status notices...?
