MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

I already cancelled my one mweb account and today decided enough is enough. Decided to cancel my company one too. Geez, what a hassle to get them to email me the form; it was like the inquisition! ... and every time I tell them it's because of useless performance they argue with me and tell me it's not.

Anyway, I eventually got the email with a .doc attachment of all things (btw, mweb, you should know that .pdf files are actually the standard).

Now all I wait for is my confirmation of my cancellation period and I'm finally FREE of mweb. What a relief!

I can also mention I have two uncapped accounts - one at home and one at the business - with two different providers and they both work like a dream ... and should I ever want to cancel, there is no need to jump through hoops ... just a button that says "cancel account".

I think this is appropriate :p :p :D

VERY GOOD! LOL

Ok.. So when MWEB phoned me to tell me about this awesome new deal. 6 months contract and first two months free, I decided let's give it a try.

Seeing that my previous ISP was having all sorts of problems, and the MWEB salesperson told me that they are much better than my previous ISP, I thought that this should be a nice change.

Well, now I'm sitting with 15kB/s download speeds from the MWEB News Server and overall download and browsing speeds of about 60kB/s. And the best of all is that I have a 6 month contract with them now. That is one way to screw someone.

Hi Piesang

I can assure you we are not a business who goes day to day with ill intentions. MWEB takes pride in the high level of service it has been providing customers from inception.

We will provide the best service possible and with transparency. p2p, torrents, 1 click hosting and such services have the lowest priority on our Network as mentioned numerous times in this thread.

Please provide me with your MWEB email address and I'll do everything possible to get to the root cause of your browsing issue.

Please also include a speed test result: http://www.mweb.co.za/helpcentre/MWEBSpeedTest.aspx

Has anyone else been experiencing slow download speeds lately? Previously, I used to cap out at 400kb/s whenever I used to connect to news servers. Right now at this very second I am downloading at 160kb/s maximum. Did MWEB bring in some port shaping that I do not know about?

Torrents are extremely slow for the past few days, any reason for this? Speedtest shows correct speeds as do all the other standard tests.

Hi PurSpyk!!

p2p, torrents, 1 click hosting and such services have the lowest priority on our Network as mentioned numerous times in this thread.

We do not support torrents due to the nature of the content.

You've been long on this thread already :-)

Odd I have never had a problem with torrents before, has Mweb changed its policy with regards to torrents? Not all torrents are illegal content.

I cannot find anything on your web site, that specifically states torrents are not supported.

Exactly my problem as well. I used to get full speeds, all the time. And now I am getting a paltry 160kb/s. I am considering switching my ISP if this carries on for much longer. I can deal with it for 14 days but thereafter, I will just switch.

I would be happy with 160kb/s I am getting 0.2kb/s and thats on a 4mb line.

Hi PurSpyk!!

As mentioned, in this thread.

Having read the last few pages of this thread, i'm glad to see that I'm not the only one suffering p2p issues. Torrents have been especially pathetic over the last few weeks and the overall service has clearly dropped a few levels. In the past, p2p speeds have been great at around 300kB+. My average now is about 50kB....:sick:

Hi PurSpyk!!

As mentioned, in this thread.

So thats official then, no torrents at all? How come this is not in any offical documentation on your web site? Surely thats where this information will be posted?

If this is now official, I will be cancelling in the morning.

These types of services speeds will fluctuate and not all of our customers are not able to download torrents.

Hey Guys,

Seeing some concerning issues connecting to hetzner servers overseas;

Ping statistics for 5.9.49.185:
Packets: Sent = 362, Received = 256, Lost = 106 (29% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 212ms, Maximum = 287ms, Average = 216ms

Ping statistics for 144.76.19.117:
Packets: Sent = 223, Received = 160, Lost = 63 (28% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 206ms, Maximum = 262ms, Average = 212ms

Connectivity between the two above servers is 0% loss ( Though my issue appears to be the same on my backup Afrihost account, as well as two or three other servers that I have scattered around ZA )

Can anyone give them a ping and see what happens? Non-MWEB/Afrihost results would be most interesting. ( Yeah, I know I am posting in an MWEB thread.. )

Telkom gives me this:

50 packets transmitted, 49 packets received, 2.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 209.837/281.085/426.582/58.789

Could it be another Seacom thing? ...

What I don't understand is a couple of weeks ago everything was fine. I pay for the premium uncapped ADSL and I have become accustomed to a certain level of performance from this account. And now you are telling me that this level of service is not going to be delivered anymore? I don't see the use in staying subscribed to you, sorry to say. You have lost a customer.

Mweb guy dude im download a 160KB/s speeds at the moment, I doubt I reached my throttling limit again. Something wrong with the network?

I have the same feeling, too expensive and service levels dropping.

That's dedication.
