MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Mweb just died or is it only me?

Dead here too - - MWeb doesn`t give a crap about their customers - it`s just a numbers game to them. For every customer they lose from here they have 20 idiots standing in line to take its place. The only silver lining is that I cancelled my account at the end of last month and am looking forward to going back to OpenWeb.

I seem to be getting extremely bad pings to most international sites. Gaming on League of Legends with a ping over 300ms this morning. Ping local sites and it seems fairly normal, from jhb to capetown getting +- 30/40ms and to servers in jhb getting about 14ms which seems normal. But anything overseas is between 200ms to 900ms and it can be 200ms on the first hop and 900 on the second hop. Doing a ping -t gives me an average of about 311ms.

Anyone else battling with international again this morning?

Morning m4dh4tt3r

You mentioned your pings are high while gaming. You also mentioned that your second hop is over 900ms.

Please do a traceroute to an international site and let me know what the results are. When the 2nd hop is that high, it points to a congested exchange.

When connecting to my online game last night (servers in the US) , I experienced continous disconnects from the game, while my team mates on other ISP's (from all over the world) were haveing no such issues. I eventually gave up around 10:00 PM and went to bed.

Finally had a day off today so I took the initiative to try get things sorted.

Phoned Telkom and got my port reset and confirmed with them that the exchange I am on is not congested. This is the exchange: http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/exchange/WWG+

Did a tracert before I phone Telkom. Was the usual 400 to 500ms on the first hop. When I got my port reset, it was down at 11ms for the first time in weeks! Bliss! Had an awesome day of internet today. But of course, the lag monster is back this evening, streaming radio sputtering away and rubberbanding in GW2. Here is your sacrificial lamb:

Any ideas MWEB guy? That was a trace to the server IP for Aurora Glade on GW2 obtained by typing /ip in to the chat box.

Morning StevenC

From the traceroute results provided, the 2nd hop is very high. This points to congestion. I know you mentioned you contacted Telkom and they confirmed the exchange is not congested, but the results show otherwise.

Have you provided them these results? Also, when you do a traceroute test during the day, what does the results look like?

Yes streaming is especially bad at night I still haven't figured out why my download speeds are so low. I can do Direct downloads just fine but everything else is just so bad, I can't even get past the D3 Launcher :(

Hi

Are you having a problem streaming from any site in particular or all streaming sites in general.

I'm getting intermittent packet loss to the Planetside 2 server in Amsterdam at 195.33.132.169. Tried my prepaid Afrihost account, no packet loss. Anyone else noticing things not working perfectly with Mweb this morning?

Also getting a large amount of loss on the MWEB network this morning (albeit from a data center rather than ADSL):

Please could you monitor your connection and let me know later if your experience has improved.
If not, please PM me a trace route to the site in question along with one to a local site.
Please also include a speed test done on the MWEB speed test and I'll take it from there.

I've been out since 9.30am, but came back at noon to find MWeb international sluggish (from Cape Town). Ping to the UK is jittery, with persistent packet loss in the 5-20% range.

Yip, definitely a problem on the MWEB network somewhere, perhaps it's Cape Town-specific. Getting very high packet loss on the 4th hop or so to Europe from both CINX and a business ADSL account. I thought ISPs would have some sort of monitoring in place for stuff like this?

Hi guys,

If there are any more of you getting packet loss, please paste your results here so I can have it looked into.
Please include where you are based (CPT, DBN, JHB)

Thanks

Streaming is slow as hell :( What's wrong? Speedtest indicates that there's nothing wrong with my connection speed. Bet it's rigged :(
