MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

I posted in the other thread, my service has improved since yesterday a lot.

So for now I am happy, but who knows maybe I also receive a mail and then that might change.

I was unable to use youtube at all, it was buffering itself to death, very slow connection times to websites, etc, but the last 2 days have been quite sublime.

4mb premium uncapped.

So what changed. Mweb are not even forthcoming and honest about that?

Point is there are guys with 2MB uncapped on openweb getting better performance on average than me?

I don't know, but for months my service has been hit and miss. Youtube practically impossible.
I have no idea if the new policy as per emails people have received has definately influenced this, but from yesterday, I can use youtube no problem, all of a sudden.

I have been down the mweb/telkom complaint route.
I even went as far as recording my speedtests and submitting them to telkom everyday as evidence of a non service against their own policies.
who knows, maybe tomorrow it all goes pear shaped again, but 2 days of bliss so far.

Maybe there were a couple of heavy users on my exchange that just got klapped, i dunno.

edit: I have afrihost/telkom/plugg as backup and 9/10 mweb is better, where i live at least.

Steam just updated my BioShock Infinite and Black Ops games, Origin is updating Crysis 3 at the moment and I'm also updating Diablo III while I'm enjoying supper. For updating my games M-Web will probably send me my second warning tomorrow and throttle my speed come 1 September! I'm too freakin scared to use my Internet now, because I don't know what the rules are. But the good news is that according to my warning email today if I upgrade to a more expensive package I can at the very least be less afraid! After 13 years of being a loyal customer I'm jumping ship this weekend! And to think I've always recommended M-Web to others...

The email says it will kick in September 1st, doubt thats why.

Well all is good then and I am still smiling from ear to ear at the moment, for whatever reason that my service has improved.

Murphy lurks though, so tomorrow I may well be back bitching at high volume.

I have to say, with all the devious behavior from MWEB in the last few years and my intelligence being insulted numerous times.... This "we are spanking you but refuse to say why" is the most insulted I have been yet. I am actually using less percent BW than last year since I turn my PC off when I go to sleep, so I ONLY download during daytime at shaped speeds. This has been the status quo for months on end and suddenly this? How the F! How the F can I possibly with my measly 1MB line be an abuser that strains the network?

MWeb Guy I understand you have to feed us the complete and utter BS Company Line but if you continue to call us idiots that need to have everything regulated for us in a totally un-transparent manner be prepared for problems simply for being the biggest ASS you have been till now. If you make a change you do it properly and properly inform people of the details PUBLICLY and not half-arsed hidden away like this.

We cancelled our MWeb account earlier this evening. There were two other people in-store cancelling as well. Seems they've upset a few people!

Hilarious, the MWeb consultant in-store suggested we try AfriHost :D

I already left last month. Its actually quite wonderful to use the internet and not be autoshaped. Best move every since I see they are gunning for rolling windows again when about all the isps have left that because... it didn't work. fail.

Seeing as though you are all over the place saying the same thing I will to.

goodbye Necuno , good riddance :D

I'm not going to comment on the accuracy of your sums :), but I do think that your assumption that the bulk of these customers will cancel is way off the mark.

I would say that the majority of these excessive users are well aware of the fact that they fall into this category already.

Many of them have probably received some sort of warning already and may already have moved between providers because of the nature of their usage.

we're not changing the rules of the game, just the way we enforce them and in the long run if these users are able to limit their behavior appropriately they will find that they're still getting the most relaxed uncapped experience available on a superior network.

Can someone please post a link for the cancellation letter, I can t even search mybb forums coz 1) I AM PISSED OFF BY THIS LETTER as my usage has been the same for the several months and 2) because of the slowness of emtyweb, the search screen doesnt even load up.

Good day MWEB Guy,

I have been a MWEB subscriber for 19 years (I originally signed up with IAfrica) and have paid my account loyally every month, even for the 8 1/2 years that I spent out of the country (so that I could keep my e-mail address in case you were wondering).

Your assumption about me not cancelling is as ludicrous as your imposition of a cap (of unknown quantity) on my "uncapped" ADSL account. Your assumption is just that "YOUR ASSUMPTION".

I do not dispute that fact that me and my family are heavy users and that is the very reason I am on an "uncapped" product.

To give you an idea of the setup at home with regard to devices:
Me 3 x computers and 1x smartphone
Wife 1 x computer and 2x smartphones
Son 1 1 x computer and 1 x smartphone and PS3
Son 2 1x computer and 1 x smartphone and XBOX 360 and IPad
Smart TV that can also connect to the internet on the home network

I have tried to run a faster line but due to the distance from the exchange only a 1mb line is possible due to the noise and latency levels.

We already ration ourselves to access the internet at certain times as the sons want to play online games and we all cannot be on at the same time.

Your third paragraph is another ASSumption, I have been with you for 19 years and have not moved between providers due to my usage. I did try another provider for a short period of time in parallel with having an account with MWEB as MWEB was not offering "Uncapped" ADSL at that time.

You ARE changing the rules. I signed up for "Uncapped" ADSL which means UNCAPPED and you are now saying that I am being capped to an amount, but sorry I cannot tell you what you capped amount is because you are on an "Uncapped" account and that would mean that we would be lying because then our advertising for "Uncapped" would be a lie.

Let me give you an analogy, you are driving on the freeway where there is an "unlimited" speed of 120km per hour at an average of 110km per hour (close to the theoretical maximum speed allowed). Suddenly the JMPD stops you and says he will give you a fine for exceeding the the "acceptable" speed limit if you continue to exceed it. You tell the cop that the speed limit is 120km an hour and can he please tell you what the "acceptable" speed limit is. His reply is that he cannot tell you what the "acceptable" speed limit is because the JMPD knows what that figure is but no-one will tell the drivers. Oh and if you exceed that "acceptable" speed limit then you are going to be fined so make sure you drive at an "acceptable" speed. And also do not worry, you are only a small group of 3% of the drivers that is exceeding this "acceptable" limit so you must just accept this and reduce your driving speed.

I think this throttling has already started. A well seeded torrent is going at less than half speed, around 30-40 kB/s. I switched to my shiny new Openweb trial account and speed immediately jumped to over 100Kb/s on exactly the same torrent.

And no my exchange is not congested.

You have to go to their site and request a cancellation form to be send to you.

I received mine already 14/06/2011 but never send it in thanks to Mwebguy.
Tonight I am sending mine through and then will look for another ISP in the meantime while I wait to be defrauded from a good internet and gaming experience for another month.

We are sorry to hear that you wish to cancel your MWEB subscription. We would really like to know what influenced your decision to cancel.

For verification purposes, and to ensure that the request came from the account holder, we require that you complete the attached form.

Please return the completed form to us via e-mail or fax it to:

Email address: [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
Fax number: (021) 596 8915.
We require a 30 day written notice for cancellation, provided you are not within a contract period.

Once we have received your form we will set the cancellation process in motion.

Please contact us should you need any further assistance.

I think this throttling has already started. A.

I smell the same rat thats why suddenly now the Internet performance are better as maybe they "commissioned" their system live the last few months to get it "ready" for September. I had the same torrents experience between openweb and Mweb this week. The difference was like day and night so was the gaming experience.

Thanks, I was hoping I didn't have to login to find the damn thing but oh well, suppose I should get the ball rolling on their effing 30 day notice bull***** they are so fond of. F**K you MWEB for making me pay for a month I won't even use your now capped service.

I once championed your cause, Free the Web, because you guys initiated the awesomeness we experience today. Today, I had many people in my store asking WTF and telling us they have just cancelled with you. I have already signed up with Openweb, who seem to actually give a ***** about their PAYING customers rather than you guys who throttle the crap out of news servers causing failed downloads, then forcing us to get it through other means and having to dish content up to us twice AND upload it to other people, costing you more money, costing us a reasonable service and eventually forcing you to piss off your entire customer base.

Remember the XBOX One reveal at E3? You just f**ked up that royally. Only, you won't get customers back.

MWeb has been odd this year, if my experience finally goes fully to S next month I WILL cancel. I'd cancel right now but I don't actually have the money to buy another router yet.... the one I got from MWeb years ago is still locked to MWeb. After years of being treated with disrespect beneath a veneer of politeness for appearances this really will be the last straw for me.
