Thanks MWEB Guy

It just seems as if the experience is just getting worse and worse, January and I'm over 4mb, and now on 2? I'm getting 2080 I mean I might as well move over to the 2mb account, yet soon it will most likely drop to 1.5..... Possibly the line is corroding? And needs to be replaced

Thats a very good question.
I have updated your openescalation. I have asked them to contact you with an update.

Thanks, just thought I would let u know it took me 2:30min to open this page :/ maybe the network is busy right now

My speeds don't seem to be great, nothing of what oliverwww is experiencing. Getting 100KB/s on 4mb. Will see what it is like tomorrow and post again if it's still slow. Don't have time to sort it out now.

Download Speed: 1224 kbps (153 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 424 kbps (53 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 35 ms

That sounds right.
I get that on my 2Mb line with the 1Mb data too.

Line is still dropping.

Phoned Telkom, they said that this is happening because I'm using a 1mbps account on a 2mbps line.

You must have been diverted to the village idiot. I haven't heard such a useless reply yet, even from Telkom :D

I signed up for Mweb 1 Mbps uncapped/shaped offer for R339 and finally got connected 21 August, the speed was dismal and under 400kbps. I called MWeb and complained, the technician was advised by his supervisor to tell me I could have the 1Mbps immediately if I was prepared to pay R488 otherwise I needed to wait for the Telkom upgrades and oops sorry we were meant to tell you when you signed up that you would have to wait but it must have slipped our minds, why not put a complaint in writing? 3 x written complaints to complaints @mweb.co.za and no human response just an automated response with a complaint number. Finally after I complained to "Hello Peter" I received the following answer:

Thank you for raising your concerns with us regarding the price and speed of the package you are currently on. I would like to take this opportunity and explain to you in the best way I can with regards to your concerns.

I listened to the call between ourself and our technical agent. He sent you information regarding the Telkom upgrades. I would like to expand on that a bit more. Telkom have scheduled upgrades for the up to 1Mb lines to the up to 2Mb line as of the 24th August. Once they have completed that phase of the upgrades, they will be upgrading the up to 384kbps lines to the up to 1Mb lines. Those upgrades are to start the beginning of October.

Regarding the price, the cost of the up to 1Mb All Inclusive package was R488 p/m. This was before the scheduled upgrades and our team looked into this and it was decided that the new cost of the up to 1Mb All Inclusive package would be R339 p/m. With that being said, the line is provisioned at the up to 384kbps in anticipation of the upgrades. Once the upgrades are completed, you will benefit from the up to 1Mb speeds.

I understand that it wasn't explained to you when signing up, I will follow up with out Sales team regarding this.

I hope things have been made a bit more clear. Please feel free to contact us regarding any further queries.

Kind regards

What on earth is going on with Mweb? How can they advertise, sign people up for and charge for a package that they cannot supply? Why am I being penalised because Telkom have not yet completed the upgrades? Obviously I am not the only one to complain as I now notice a red banner and asterisk implying terms and conditions for that particular package has been added to the website. Very sneaky move, kind of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted? Shame on you MWeb, what a disappointing experience I have had with you, time to cancel my contract methinks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a 1mb line reach speeds of around 100kbps?

106KB/s on a 1Mb line.
Sustained115-130KB/s on anything faster, (1Mbps account is rate limited to around 1Mbps aka 128KB/s)
With burst speeds, a 1Mb account can reach anything up to around 160KB/s, as per my results this past week.

Mweb guy, my down speed seems to be fixed. Seems like a reconnected did the job :D

Guess what I have the same issue! I used to have my 1Mbps ADSL line managed by Telkom wit my ISP as MWEB however; I decided to migrate to the 1Mbps all inclusive uncapped package as per the advertised price of R339...
There was NO communication of this illegal practice of charging for the 1Mbps service but not delivering on it - my current line speed is @ 384kbps. I dont friggin care that you have issues with upgrades but deliver on what I am paying for damnit!

I was told I must wait 48 BUSINESS hours to receive a call from a consultant after emailing the person who migrated my account and 3 calls to the call centre. I am appalled that I a paying customer have to wait that long for just a call from someone who is probably not going to solve my problem for MWEB's f&^^%$$k up.

ASA and Consumer Commission here I come. If nothing works there....cheers to MWEB and Hello to your competitor Afrihost!

@ MWeb Guy: This is daylight robbery and you are say nothing about it? How about looking into fixing the issue????

Send me your MWEB details and I will investigate this matter for you.

Hey Mweb guy. Do you guys not do line rental for you 1mb line? Would I have to get that from Telkom?

Oh and I'm possibly wanted to try the 7 day trial, seriously not happy with my Internet!

Hi Chingatchkook

Telkom is not selling up to 1MB speeds currently as they are busy upgrading all 1MB to up to 2MB. Once this has been completed we will be offering the up to 1MB packages.
