MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

I have the same issue as described above.

I am connecting to the Eldoraigne (012 658) exchange. ISP: Mweb, uncapped 2MB

Was upgraded from 1MB to 2MB on the 14th of September and have been experiencing high latency since the 21st of September.

During the day all seems fine with the ping being around 55-62ms while at night the ping goes up to between 700-1000ms. (Yesterday had a ping of over 1900ms)

Telkom keeps advising that nothing is wrong with the line and closing the call.

Mweb has said that there can't be congestion on the exchange because there is 18% space available, but my experience at night contradicts this

Things I have tried:

Accounts:
Mweb Account
FNBconnect account
Telkom Guest account

Hardware:
Different routers

Wiring:
Bypassing all wiring in house, so plugging the router directly into little boxy thingy (Sorry, I don't know the term for this piece of equipment) instead of running a cable from this Telkom box to the study where the router is located.

Have also tested while the landline was disconnected.

None of these make a difference. One good thing though.. Mweb has really been trying to help

Hi MinionOfWar

If other ISP accounts are giving you the same results after hours, to me that points out a congested exchange.

Have you provided Telkom with the tracerts during these times? Please also provide me with your MWEB account details.

Mweb guy please read your pm. FYI, watching the stream perfectly on a capped account, under 100Kb/s. MWeb failing

Hi GaskooN

Please provide me with a tracert and ping result to any international and local site.

Okay, so it seems the quality of my line slowly degrades over the course of the day. During Midday my margins sit at 12 or so, by 17h20 they're down to 6/7. What could be causing this?

Now its working fine, does mweb shape in the day now?

Hi GaskooN

If you on a shaped account there will always be shaping. If you looking for no shaping then our unshaped products will best suite you.

Hi XennoX

Please provide me with your MWEB account details. This looks like a congestion issue or line problem.

Hi guys, I'm on a 1meg uncapped (haha) ADSL account (mweb obviously) with a recently upgraded 2meg Telkom line. I've been experiencing issues though since this upgrade happened. I live right next to the Durban exchange and used to get between 90k to just over 100k per second on my previous 1meg telkom line. Now I barely get over 30k and sometimes dialup speeds, flashing me instantly back to the days of hearing the ping and green streaming blocks of graphics.

Why does my international connection grind to a halt when it hits the London Mweb IP of 176.67.177.131 (like mentioned earlier in this thread) and suddenly get over 200ms ping rate. My local connection is around 150k/160k so its moving nicely but international is pathetic. I can't even stream youtube videos. I'm in permanent buffer land. I've had telkom reset the line including downgrading me to 1meg line and that just dropped me even lower to under 15k. Very interesting though how its as if a 1meg is the new 384k line...

Another thing that puzzled me was the Mweb page for new accounts, for the 1meg line it doesn't mention the account is for video but only the 2meg account is. Before last week I had no problems with streaming video till the cows came home.

What is actually going on here please. I've set my line back to 2meg as now at least I have 30-50k connection but it really is not satisfactory. There's nothing wrong with the modems or the laptop and no ones hacked my wifi.

How can this be rectified so that I have a 1meg connection again without being forced to buy a 2meg Mweb account to get my 1meg speeds? Thanks.

Hi bradza

Please provide me with your MWEB account details and I'll do some further investigation.

M-Web Guy.

I think that most people are finding confusing is the fact that News Servers were always great and now its shaped down to as much as 25kb/s in the evenings. During the day if I fire off something its going at 80 -100kb as it should be. Then in the evening between 6PM and 11PM its super unstable and slow.

HTTP downloads, steam and those sort of things still function at full speed it seems.

Basically instead of waiting to come home and grab whatever I want for the day I login remotely from work to my PC and queue the download at like 9AM and everything is fast as it always was.

Thanks MWEB guy, have sent it to you. Looking forward to your reply.

At 18:00 I started my DL and it was going at 40 kbs, now it is down to 30kbs

As per my posts yesterday and what people are saying here - something is wrong. I guess those shapers are working overtime due to MWeb's lack of bandwidth issues.

I hate moaning again and hoped that after ages of up and down stuff with WA that MWeb was the one, but starting to worry on this front

I can turn a magazine page here faster than a page reload... *sigh* another night reading paper.

Hi Freaker

The MWEB News server has always a best effort experience as there are a finite amount of resources you can commit to a free news feed. I've been actively monitoring my own experience on an Astraweb connection to see how NNTP is performing in general at the moment. Speeds last night and the night before were well inside the range I'm used to seeing (400KB/s ++).

Speeds did drop off heading towards 08h00 this morning, but you would expect this and it's currently graphing at around 350-375KB/s, which I think is excellent for daytime NNTP.

Hi

Here is also more info regarding NNTP.

@MWeb Guy

Does this simply mean that the Uncapped ADSL network is perfectly fine however the NNTP servers (news.mweb.co.za) are currently being over utilized?
