MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Anyone else having issues with dropped connections. Went down at 19:57 for 5 minutes and then again at 20:18, back at 20:21, down at 20:22 for a few seconds and back up again.

20:24, and dropped again. Switched over to WA - let's hope all good with them

Well, dropping connections all the time so must be a Telkom fault :(

Let's hope things sorted by tomorrow morning

Spoke too soon. NNTP back to 25-30kbps tonight. General web browsing on stock image sites = 40-80kbps max. Poor, very poor! Not into this anymore. It is pointless paying Telkom for the 2mb line rental and Mweb for a 2mb account which runs @ under 1mb speeds.

Your technical guy calls me on Saturday and guess what? Speeds were up to 200kbps all of the sudden. I explained the issue to him with regards to NNTP and the heavy shaping over the past month and he agreed that this is not the experience I should be having. He especially pointed out that I am in no way a heavy downloader so 'should not be shaped so heavily' - his words.

Edit: I may as well move to Telkom uncapped and make everything their fault! But I am not a sucker for that kind of punishment and will have to find another solution.

I was told much the same by the mweb tech who called me...
so yeah

NNTP crawling along at sub 10kb/s...

Something I have noticed with regard to slow http speeds I am experiencing:
I am sourcing hi-res pics for a design project. When I click on a pic to enlarge it (+-3-5mb), it starts out at 200kbps and within 3 seconds or so, it slows down to 60-80 kbps. I noticed that too on NNTP downloads. That is definitely shaping on all protocols. The same sites on a different ISP loads the same pic on the same site at full line speed.

Going to give notice in the morning and go with plan B month after next. All the slowness of my MWeb experience has made me grumpy and sleepy...Oo

Morning subxero

I know that your speed issues are only related to non HTTP speeds, correct?

I need to make mention hereof; we do not shape individuals for the amount they download per month. I will listen to the call between yourself and the technical specialist and provide further feedback, if, I hear anything that is not the correct information.

Hi

Please provide me with the link where you trying to download the pics and I'll do some DL tests.

Hi subxero

"He especially pointed out that I am in no way a heavy downloader so 'should not be shaped so heavily' - his words."

I listened to the call and he did not say you shouldn't be shaped so heavily because you not a heavy downloader.

As I mentioned; we do not shape individuals.

As per your conversation with the technical specialist you'll monitor and provide feedback. Please let me know if you are encountering any speeds issues on normal HTTP downloads?

My NNTP seems a little slower, but the rest is perfect! Pings on my Mweb acc are great too!

Mwebs news server downloads are terrible. I downloaded about 1 gig in 10 hours.

Their HTTP downloads are fine and I get good speeds
(Downloaded windows 8 in 4 hours)

Good Afternoon Wallsend, newserver traffic receives a low priority on our network and will be impacted on by shaping especially during business hours.

Hi Mweb Guy

I understand this, I don't expect great download speeds during business hours. However, I constantly get 50-60 k/b after hours.

I promised myself i will never go back to ADSL with the crap service and line I got in the past from Telkom. But I canceled my 3g today and will be going over to Mweb uncapped next month.

Please Mweb don't disappoint! :)

Hey just checking, my connection has been a bit erratic speedwise, for instance, a YouTube video might load fast for a bit then load slow for a bit, or a page might not load for a bit and then after a few refreshes it loads...

.......

what is happening with news servers ?

i complained about the speeds, got a call today about it. apparently im subject to shaping, why has this become an issue recently ? over a year with no problems at all. now shaping ? rather than having us all recieve a call claiming we are subject to shaping, can we be told what changed ? as ive been "subject to shaping" since i started my account.

currently i pay R539 p/m versus a friend who pays R397 p/m both recieve 4mb ISP Accounts, i get shaped for what seems more than 50% of a 24 hour day, he is never shaped unless he goes overboard on downloads.

also another friend on a 2mb line is getting faster downloads currently than i am on a 4mb line, different ISP.

so please, can this problem be taken seriously as its getting out of hand.

PS: Yes im aware that its given a lower priority on the mweb network etc, but im curious what has changed to cause this, if you go back in this thread you will find loads of people with exactly the same problem. the only solutions ive been offered is to pay more for an unshapped account. which is just plain stupid.

I would also love to know why all of a sudden this has become an issue on the Mweb network, why speeds have gone to hell all of a sudden, and why was shaping not been implemented in the fashion it is now.

Looking forward to the response

+1

I was told that I am getting good value for money for the amount I DL. Not too sure how this justifies the changes we are experiencing. I do agree it was great value when all worked well, and then certainly was very happy - now I am getting less and told "getting value for money". I think it was MWeb hoping this would get me to keep quiet :)

They love justifying the cost of an uncapped product with "good value for money", and the performance of the network is getting worse and worse, today i struggled loading websites, but since I download, i guess its still good value for money. Anyway, lets see what Mwebs official stance is on this

Cancelled mweb today. The speeds are ridiculous on news servers, 17KB/s whole day yesterday.
Pity about the months notice tho cos i ready signed up with openweb and the news servers are flying!

Still waiting on feedback my speeds are shyte i tested even local ftp.games.saix.net average speed 70kb/s ???????
this has been going on for too long !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Reign

I'll follow up on this for you, you should have received some feedback already.
I'll check up on it for you.

20kb per second from news servers tonight on what should be cached content.

Something somewhere is seriously broken. :P
