Hi Mweb Guy

It is the speed I get when I use the internet. Tested with the Telkom guest account and my Afrihost free account and although I get slightly faster results, it is still sub 2mbps. I will have to call Telkom it seems. Fun times.

Hi Mweb Guy,

Could you please check if there is a problem with my account. I called Telkom and they informed me that I must first confirm that my account is in working order before logging a fault.

My router loses connection after 1 minute of connectivity. I would've added a Speedtest result but it unfortunately won't load.

I was syncing at 2048 for the past week and now it's dropped to 1888. I will PM my account details.

Good Evening, the disconnections on your account is really excessive.

We will not be causing your router to disconnect. It would be your line or your hardware.

Your line attenuation is at 63.5 dB and your SNR reading is at 3dB. This definitely looks like a line problem.

Hi,

I'm back with M-Web after more than a years absence. Is it normal for torrents to be shaped into oblivion?

I have a torrent running at present. It has 13500 seeds. On My M-Web 1mb it show less than 20 active seeds. Downloads are all over the place between 0.3 and 20kB/s at the moment.

I then switch to my capped Webafrica backup account and the speeds pickup to over 70 and the active seeds pickup to over 220. This clearly indicates that it's not my line.

I ran a similar test 9:30 last night with similar results. I contacted technical support about 7:30 tonight and he confirmed with me that the system is heavily shaped.

I signed up for the 6 month special yesterday. If this is how it will be for the next 6 months I really don't want to have this service.

Hi Mweb Guy. My attenuation and snr has been this bad since for almost two years now but has never disconnected so much before. Thanks, I'll log a fault with Telkom tomorrow.

Good Evening pjjdp

Please provide me your MWEB account details.

Also note that your MWEB account is a shaped account and cannot be compared to a capped account.

Torrents are giving the lowest priority on our network and at no stage do we guarantee speeds with torrent traffic.

Pleasure, the attenuation and SNR can definitely cause disconnections.

You could check your telephone to hear whether you have any noise on your line.

I understand that, but 0.3kB/s? What kind?

I can add that since my post about 30min ago. Speeds have increased to over 60kB/s and just over 200 active seeders on the same torrent. So things are looking up. Seems shaping is relaxing now.

I will be happy if I can do about 3-4gb a night. I shutdown my pc during the day now as my UPS packed up. So no downloading 24/7.
Lets see how it goes. I PM'd you my details for reference purposes.

Regards

Pieter

What. The. ****.

Morning Copacetic, did you do the speed test with anything running in the back ground or any paused downloads?

Looking at your usage for yesterday, your speeds seem fine....

Problems with the news server tonight? Connection seems to be dropping often

I agree - my DL all came from Astraweb, so something not right on this front

Good Morning Guys,

@Nduimiso are you still having trouble this morning?

@Fulton17, is it only downloads from Astraweb that is causing a problem this morning?

My Telkom line is totally dead this morning. No dial-tone. I'm connected to the Internet using my old MTN data modem.

What should I do? I feel reluctant to call Telkom about this issue because I hate to hear that it's because of the damn cable thieves.

Morning, What shoud or rather what is the acceptable Attenuation and SNR?

Hey... try 7h15min to download a 85MB file. I started the DL just after 10PM last night. When I got up this morning around 6AM, it was still on 98%...and this...is not even a torrent but via HTTP download using a DL Manager.

...this is really sad and once again we have a MWEB Support Agent that confirms "heavy shaping"...even after hours and at that late hour!

@MWEB...I know 90-95% of your customers are all local who operate SAST business hours. You have the odd one here and there that has International clients in different timezones...but still...to apply this type of shaping afterhours as well? I mea... 7hrs for a 80MB file via http download? You have got to be kidding me?

Hi bradlesliect,

I can actually add HTTP downloading to that. Firefox wanted to to a Flash update when I tried to watch a youtube vid about 9ish last night. This update is only about 980kb. It took 20min to download that. I even stopped the torrents to help.
Needless to say, I could not even view a 3 min video on Youtube.

Good Morning DarkSpectre,

Is your Telephone line down as well?

Please confirm, then I will log the line fault on your behalf.
