MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

I have an 4MB uncapped account with MWEB, with the line managed by MWEB as well. As a matter of interest I did a trace to bbc.co.uk, and here is the result. Is it good or bad?

Good Morning, your tracer seems normal.

There seems to be no problem with the tracer. Your speed test results on the other hand is concerning. Are you running the speed test with any active traffic in the back ground?

EDIT: please also provide me your MWEB account details via private message.

Done.

Good Morning AmonRe, which traffic are you obtaining 2MB speeds on? Also please provide me the username you are currently connecting with.

Hey not to worry, looks like all is back to normal this morning again. Will be in touch if i have any other issues.

Awesome... Thanks for the feedback.. Enjoy your day ;)

Absolutely sick of this. As you will see from past messages in this thread, I live in the same area of Cape Town as Code-Red (Rondebosch) and have the exact same problem. Pings are fine early in the morning, afternoon/night games are unplayable, 1000 latency and even local pings >300ms. The last time I posted in this thread was last Saturday. I then received two calls from your technical specialists in the following 2 days. The issue was not resolved, which I reported to you, yet I have not heard from a technician since.

Here is yet another tracert

This is a problem with your exchange! congested no doubt, you will have to call Telkom twice a day at least to put pressure on them! Good Luck, I have been waiting since November 2011 to have our exchange upgraded.

Mweb Guy, Is it possible that Telkom are prioritizing SAIX based accounts over other ISP's on congested exchanges?
Reason I ask, When using a SAIX account my internet is 100%, Telkom have confirmed our exchange is congested, but when using MWEB, IS, WebAfrica, DataPro or MTN accounts, the second hop in the trace route is high, but on SAIX account it is not?

Just a thought, As I know Mweb has a SLA in place for IPC links, and this could cause havoc for Telkom if it is so....

Hi

I'm not sure if they do but it would be sad if they did.
However I doubt that's the case, as you mentioned, we do have SLA's in place.

Good Morning, the tracers you've provided show's a big jump in latency on the second hop. I have checked the previous tracers you've provided and it illustrates something similar. At the time, there was a Network problem on telkoms side and this has since been cleared.

Please provide me another tracer to bbc.co.uk and speed test results and I will log technical call back. We can then ascertain the times your internet runs slower and log a fault with Telkom to check for congestion (as this is what I think is causing your problem).

Speedtest:

Hi

Still having my speed problems, tried different routes and still the same results.

This morning at 06:45 decided to do a speed test, all of a sudden, my pings were 15ms, and speeds at 3.85 as expected for a 4Mbps line. Then at 07h00 re did the test, pings had dropped to 605ms, speeds 0.2. So this is an indication somewhere my line is being severely limited for some reason. WHY???

Hi PurSpyk!!

I will add your latest feedback to your open fault.

Got visit from Telkom today, they saw the slow speed but have no idea why its slow. So Now another day has passed and still can barely browse. I should be compensated for this lack of service!

This is what I get for R899 per month:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 251 kbps (31.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 285 kbps (35.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 688 ms

Odd thing, this morning at 06:45 the line was running at full speed!!

I have a fault logged with Telkom for close to 3 months now. My line drops intermittently. At times I can't even use the phone. It's mostly weather dependant. Telkom keeps clearing my fault ref but not repairing it. I have to rebook the fault weekly.

It's damn frustrating.

Hi PurSpyk!!

What test did they do that they picked up the slow speed? Didn't they let you know what the next steps will be?

Supposedly another technician will be coming along tomorrow, as you can imagine, this is driving me mad, as I basically have extremely limited Internet. Telkom has recently upgrade the local exchange to 10Mbps and since this seems to coincide with my speed issues. Currently I dont see why I should be paying for this service as I am not getting what I am paying for.

Telkom supposedly were busy at the exchange and then came to my house and plugged in their laptop, which showed I have a 4Mbps connection, but all speed tests show a completely different picture. I am even having difficulty posting on this forum due to the speeds.

Just a heads up, latency finally seems fine again for the first time in a long time in GW2.

Hell, I am even downloading NNTP (limited to half line speed) and there is no lag. This is back to how it used to be 2 months ago!
Will monitor the status quo, as always :)

Amazing my issue is not getting resolved. Telkom were supposed to come around at 09h00 today, got a call they were going to have a meeting and would be coming around at 15h00. Now they call and they are busy with another job and we have to wait. PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT I AM PAYING FOR!!

Hi PurSpyk!!

Thanks for letting me know about this. I will add this to the open fault so that our team can follow up with Telkom regarding this.

Mweb Guy, Mweb DNS servers are buggy again!

196.28.75.200 & 196.28.182.10

They are taking for ever to resolve host names, switched to Google DNS and flying again?

Hi Hummercellc

Are you still having issues with the MWEB DNS servers? We had no reported issues regarding this.
