MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Really ...... REALLY????

Care to explain why you are so surprised?

First month on MWEB uncapped and I see I'm getting throttled so I come here seeking advice and clarity.

Pretty disappointed to he honest coming from a Web Africa Red account and getting throttled before I even hit what I did monthly on the WA capped account. Oh well, so we learn and perhaps move on.

Sure ....

Its common cause that MWEB throttle blatantly ... simply put, their offering is hardly uncapped.
They have tried to justify the throttling, silence their customers who complain and more recently, have tried to say that they are relaxing their limits.
Now consider, their initial statement was that 3% of EXISTING users we ''abusers''.

Without trying to be funny or to point fingers .... if you want clarity, here it is .... MWEB lies - their accounts are NOT UNCAPPED. If you want my humble opinion - move to a REAL ISP.
Looking at your join date and post quantum - you should know better about MWEB and their throttle policy.

That aside, I am not surprised so mush as PEEVED at MWEB for throttling you.

I hear you but I really haven't bothered reading up about any of the ADSL problems or offerings on here since I got a WA Red Africa account.

@MWEB_Guy - How do I go about cancelling my package with you guys?

I'm considering switching back to WA or either Telkom uncapped. Will just pop both their reps a PM first to ask about their fair usage policies and throttling.

Go with a Afrihost Account, you won't be sorry, Telkom is even worse than Mweb....

+1 - Sage advice my good fellow .....

Has any one used the Android Fon app, it just tells me invalid credentials.

Hi, I sent an email to [email protected] and I have not received a reply yet.
It concerns about our FON router which is broken.
Everything works except for the ADSL port. It is not a software problem, as I suspect lightning might have fried the port as it fried one of our phones, but the other one was left unscathed (so it might have been just enough to fry the port).
How do I proceed?

Is anyone else having problems with an unstable connection today? Some pages either don't load properly or they don't load at all. And I find myself having to refresh (sometimes a few times) before I'm able to get a page to load properly.

I am, it has been happening all day now. It has become worse recently though.

EDIT: I changed my DNS tot he google public DNS, and now everything seems fine, sites load in an instant, etc. So maybe check if this solves your problem. In the end it might be MWEB's DNS servers bugging, not sure, but something is up.

Prospective MWEB client here - what does the performance of MWEB's residential 4 mbs uncapped service looking like in the Cape Town area? Is it usable at night? Can you watch twitch streams on any quality? Do you get decent ping while gaming (specifically Dota 2)?

I just want to know if switching to MWEB might leave me better off than staying with Telkom.

It's usable at any time of the day in that it gives you exactly what you've bought. Twitch at 720p/high no problem (medium on 2Mbps). Just remember that 4Mbps Standard is throttled at about 110GB per 30 day window, 4Mbps Premium being throttled at 400GB.

HI Extra-Planetal we do offer 7 day trial accounts if you are interested in testing first.

If so send me a PM with your contact details

I had both the 4mbps uncapped standard and premium account. I use the internet mostly from 5 pm till 1 am, and I am always able to play online games without lag. During the day you would also have no issues.

I did notice that torrents will be slower during the evening, but that is understandable. I usually get very high download speeds on Steam.

Long story short, MWEB is probably the most expensive ISP, and the Uncapped packages are not really "Uncapped". Trust me, if you ever get throttled, you can forget about using your internet for the next 3 days. If you stay within your threshold, you will be a very happy customer. But you do get good service, and the internet speeds are usually good at peak time.

With the other ISP's, you will probably never get the speeds you want at night without getting a business account or something like that. I could be wrong, but that is what I could derive while I was doing my research a few weeks back.

I have been with MWeb 4 meg uncapped premium for a few years and just moved to Afrihost capped 100gb account and the different is like day and night. I even tested my GFs 2 meg Afrihost bundled account and it outperformed Mweb premium 4 meg account in terms of twitch streaming/youtube and torrents. Also note that you will have to give a calender month notice if you decide to leave mweb and have to return modem if you choose to get one from them. Also remember that there is 2 versions of the uncapped service for mweb..the cheaper version and the premuim. The premium package is about R550 rand. In my opinion it really was not worth it due to bad streaming buffering etc. I am in Cape Town, rondebosch area. Mweb uncapped used to be very very good, but these days I would not recommend anyone to subscribe with them.
