MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Hi

From what I can see it was migrated back to Telkom when you upgraded from the 4mbps product in July to the 10mbps standard.

When does MWEB bill the customer, as in if I wish to cancel, by what date should I do it?

For cancellations we require 1 calendar months notice.

So for example, if you want the account cancelled by the end of October then you need to send us a cancellation request by the end of september

Not getting any joy there, here is a new tracert to the gaming server:

Hi Drifter

I will check in with them and feedback you on Monday during the course of the day.

I'm curious to understand something here.

What good, exactly, does a special deal with GigaNews do your users if you are just going to port shape any and all connections TO GigaNews and any other newsgroup server to death for 18 out of every 24 hours of the day ?

That's like giving someone a car for free but only letting them drive it between midnight and 6 in the morning every night, which makes it a fairly useless car in the grand scheme of things.

The good it does is that it preserves the network for 99% of MWEB clients during 99% of the time they are likely using their connections.

been having latency problems last couple of days, trying to play some games

speedtest even tells me it is having problems reading latency file or something

tried 3 different times

I would run speedtest, it looks ok... try play game, problem again... run speedtest again and get the error

Telkom/router fault.

Hi

Please let me know if you still having trouble with your connection.
If so, please drop me a PM with your info.

Anyone else with problems in Cape Town, I'm disconnected again again. DSL light is on, but internet is off.

Nope, sounds like a line/router fault. We need to dig deeper than router lights in order to find out. Have you tried another account? Telkom guest account?

For the last month this has been happening intermittently, but it happened pretty much the whole of today.

Many URLs will just fail to load whatsoever, and I will be unable to ping them. Eg. www.mweb.co.za or www.standardbank.co.za will load. www.google.co.za fails (and anything google related), www.mybroadband.co.za fails as well. Sites that do load will take AGES to finish loading as many of them using Google for tracking and adverts. I double checked in my Mweb Account dashboard to see if I was throttled or anything like that... nope.

I've been having this problem since Friday, and it was driving me crazy. I tried turning off my router (MWeb FON) and all the usual tricks, but no joy.

I am based in Cape Town, and could not connect to any sites based in SA, connecting via other backbones hosts (or which had google adverts). There seemed to be some sort of routing issue, where traffic disappeared into a 'black-hole' somewhere.

This morning I phoned Tech Support, who told me to change my login from @mweb.co.za to @dls512two.co.za, which fixed the problem.

My question is why on earth this is happening (and who is dsl512two.co.za), and why I needed to change my login to fix a problem with MWeb's network...

Just wanted to thank MWEB Guy/MwebHelp, you are very efficient in what you do.

Network status updates have since been updated with a fault at my exchange. This stupid exchange has been giving lots of problems this month.

Is there anything I can do to follow up regarding my exchange? Its been more than 24 hours now. We've had close to, if not more, than a week of downtime this past month.

MWEB Guy we had a huge thunderstorm last night and it looks like the Fon router was damaged, the upstream SNR is less than half of what it was and the line attenuation tripled, but only the upstream side.

When I connect a old modem I have the stats go back to normal.

Please advise.

See you are in Sasolburg, man that whole Vaal triangle has crazy thunder storm weather!
LOL, as I type this, the rumbling starts here by me too.

Back OT, don't routers have the protection built-in these days?

Hi Soul Assassin

Give the router a reset ( not reboot ) and see if that resolves. Our ADSL support team should also be able to test with you.

None of our routers are protected in Warranty when it comes to storm damage.
mmm stuff is online.
