MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Can you perhaps test using a download manager?

Couldn't download one. I think it's a real pity when I cancel this account, I've been using it for quite some time without any real major issues.

The downloads simply will not start. I perceive it as a timeout.

I tried using different DNS servers under connection settings. ie. 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 and 197.84.84.84/196.28.75.200

Is there anything you can try from your end? Like a reset?

When I connect with WA everything works, so my line is fine.

Even program updates just won't budge :

/thinks load shedding on Saturday screws up the connection, redialed the connection and it seems better...

Thanks for the info.

If you require further assistance then you know where to find me :)

I'm out again looking for a new ISP and I'm considering signing up with the devil. Does mweb give trial accounts to test with?

The devil? Please, the complete opposite.

Yes they do, but not if your telephone number/line has already received a trial.

Why do you even need a trial? You don't.

Not my opinion, thats just what my friends call them

I've never dealt with Mweb before, so I guess I'm good. First Afrihost's crappy service, then OpenWeb's nonexistent daytime internet and now Webafrica. Only used 60GB this month so far on my 4Mb account and they shoved me down to three stars. Yea... not happy about that.

Hi yes we do offer trial accounts.

As PostmanPot stated, if your line has already used a trial account then you would not be able to get a trial account.

Send me a PM with a contact number

Hi MWEB guy, me complaining about online gaming again. I could not connect to my game AT ALL at around 16:00 this afternoon. Changed router settings to trial account from another ISP, connected to game instantly, played a bit. Changed router settings back to my MWEB account, no connection to game. How can you explain that?

That is strange.

Tell me which game it is.

Warcommander, on Kixeye.com. You can either play direct via their website, or by using the Facebook portal. Browser based.

Tell me have tried this with a different brower

Yes, I have. This is the same issue we had last year. After 17:00 or so I can connect using mt MWEB account. Only in core hours that MWEB wont connect.

If this happens again tomorrow, di a trace route to a local and international site and give me the results

Uh MWEB Guy, I did a bit of research of what the possible issue could be (in my case at least).

Turns out I'm unable to resolve Akamai based domains? Does that make any sense?

For example when I ping the ASUS file server I get this result :

ping dlcnet.asus.com

Pinging a1828.b.akamai.net [197.80.131.139]

Why would their fileserver domain resolve as an akamai.net domain? This is possibly why I get some downloads to work and some not. I'm still investigating I've no clue what this Akamai bull**** is to be honest.

Some more info. Something which I don't understand.

Both the Google DNS and MWEB DNS resolve the domain, but in any browser I get a timeout when I attempt to download a file from it. As you can see the IP's differ though.

Hi, I am stumped to be honest.

I have escalated this to our specialists to investigate and to contact you.

Your ref is 1741228

So, I'm in the situation where my exchange has been congested for several months now. It started out about 6 months ago where I would notice small lag spikes every once in a while, despite nothing else running on the line. Today it's so bad that every afternoon, the ping times to the first hop on Mweb is at 300+ms and remains like that all night till I go to bed. Same problem on other ISPs too, BTW, so it's not Mweb.

Long story short, my internet connection is basically unusable from 16:00 and on due to Telkom exchange congestion. Is there anything I can do to make Telkom fix this, or is there anything Mweb can do to make Telkom fix this (my ADSL line extortion is with Mweb) and what are the chances that Telkom will resolve this at all?
