MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Evening Kenny

We implemented a tool on My Account that shows you what the usage for the last 30 days is. Bear in mind, the limiting is based on a 30 day rolling window period.

This will show you if the account is throttled or not as well. That will give you an idea of how to manage the account effectively.

If I follow you correctly, the status of my account (throttled/unthrottled) will give me an idea of how to manage my account more effectively? Is that what you mean?

Hahaha! THis is BS!!! It's like driving a car without knowing how long it will last.

As an Openweb user, I'm happy to state that I have been managing my account "effectively" by scheduling my queued downloads to occur every day from 10pm to 8am :p My ISP is very grateful for that.

I truly feel sorry for you, mweb users, I mean abusers

Greetings All,
\Now, question - what was the longest time (days, weeks, months(?)) you were throttled for?

As long as it took to cancel and move. ;)

It takes 10 minutes to fill in the cancellation form, an hour to get thru to MWEB to downgrade to the R29 package, 5 minutes to put a stop on the payment, and 7 weeks to get the refund when you get over billed the following month .....

In real terms the balance of this month and the throttling could be gone for good ,,, depending on how much you enjoy being throttled....

Dunno, maybe the idea is that you spend a few months gathering usage data and recording it in excel until you know exactly what the threshold is.

As I have calculated, it's the most cost effective solution to every MWEB related problem.

I've been throttled as well. Now, it would be great if they stated on the "MY Account" to what speed. My internet experience is k@k now. :(

How do other ISPs manage?

The big question here is ... how do other ISPs manage without throttling their uncapped users? MWEB is (was?) a major player in the ISP market in SA. They are now actively enforcing their AUP and throttling "heavy" users, whereas other ISPs are not AFAIK.

How are these other ISPs able to continue to provide gigabytes or data to their users when MWEB cannot?

MWeb were late in introducing any draconian methods while most of them have implemented their AUPs from the get go.

Mweb can, but when you put short term profits over and above everything else this is what you end up with, whatever small increase in margin they have made is totally wiped out by the loss of brand goodwill.

Greetings All,
And so, I also, as many of you, got throttled on 31th of October, and still is.
At that moment traffic usage was 125 or so GB, now its about 129GB.
From what I understand, I need to get to below 100GB bracket to get full speed again.
As it is, its not going to happen anytime soon, I presume.
Now, question - what was the longest time (days, weeks, months(?)) you were throttled for?

So far 3 days, hopefully tomorrow will be Unthrottled.

Dude I feel your pain. I hate that there is a limit on the Mweb Internet when it should be "Uncapped"

Well OW shaped during the day but flies after hours and weekends. I have never been throttled for 3 days solid and don't need to ''manage'' my web experience. Some happy comments on their thread too.

AH - Use this account during the day and haven't really had anything to complain about. Probably have been shaped but never to the extent that the net is not useable.

MWEB, well apart from the PR issue - being slow for days on end without any clear rules, and the fact that THEY assume that I am the torrent whore - makes it much greener on the other side for me.

You can change the password to 9 characters, you will need to only put the first 8 characters on the router settings.

Regarding reverting back to the previous package, I will check with our team and get back to you.

Hi MWEB Guy

I'm still waiting for a response.
