MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Mweb Guy, why do you guys shape P2P to the extreme :/ Even after hours when the network is quiet ( like from 11 to 6 am ) BitTorrent never reaches even up to 75 % of the lines maximum. It's ridiculous :( I hope you going to make improvements to your network or find a way to monitor it better as you will eventually lose most of your client base. How you throttle P2P is inhumane

Hi GreatD7007

Torrents are given the lowest priority on our network and speed are not guaranteed.

Even at off peak times? I know they are shaped during the day and I respect that but after 12 in the morning when the network is dead quiet I can't even get half of my line speed, I'm on a 1Mb account and I get peak 65- 70 KB p/s. This can't be logical surely

Don't come here with your torrent tendencies! Abuser! Don't touch me on my ADSL!

Torrents do get shaped even after hours, the shaping will be less than during the day.

How would I go about finding the noise on my line, as previously mentioned some time ago our alarm was updated and a couple of days after that my line died for 2 hours and when it came back my ADSL dropped from just under 4096 to 3360.

The alarm thing might me completely unrelated, when looking at other peoples stats and reading online my Downstream SNR should be at least double my Upstream SNR. When I woke up my line was dead again and after a modem reboot I see I've been upgraded to 10Mb and would really like to see the added speed, something is causing major noise on the line.

Hi Soul Assassin, I have tested your line and your signal strength is very low.

I have recreated your port and reauthed your account, allow 30 minutes to pass then restart your router and test.

Why am I thinking that you really want me to leave MWEB for good after how much MWEB restricts or reduces speeds on certain protocols on your network, it's just not ethical. It's like living in the old ages. Aren't we in 2013 now, I think it's time to go

Didn't do a thing.

You should be able to see this on your router software - most routers will have an IP 192.168.0.1, type this into your browser, enter any authentication thats required and there shoul be a router software page. Navigate around and you should find your stats for SNR, and your attenuation. Give these to the MWEB technician or telkom and they wil give you advise or look at your line accordingly.

I used to have this problem - after the rains with moisture. Telkom fixed after 4 years of fighting.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, but I already knew all of that, I know all my stats and I was previously okay with having just below 4Mb but since being upgraded to 10Mb today the SNR has to be fixed and I'm pretty sure this means having a technician come out :(

Can I do anything on my end before having to get a technician?

Hi,

I'm not to sure if the is anything that you can do from your side besides the basics.
Even that is a long shot, testing with another router if possible, perhaps try switch filters if you have more than one.
Let me know if makes any difference.

I've tried with another router and three different POTS filters, the line is stable but with my Attenuation I should be able to get at least between 6 and 8 Mbps, but something is causing major noise somewhere.

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 5.1 6.0
Attenuation (dB): 43.0 24.5

Would you like me to log a line fault for you for this matter?

Today is a bit on the suck side, something on the network is not cool -
