MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

I'm on 1mb Uncapped for R199. Will I be upgraded to 2mb Uncapped for R199 automatically?

And what is the threshold difference between the two?

Evening Piesang

I'm pretty sure it will automatically be upgraded, but let me confirm this from our side.

The standard package thresholds are lower than the premium packages.

Thanks. Got your PM. I won't mind upgrading it to 2mb so if it is something you can arrange then you can go ahead. I assume the 1mb will not be available anymore.

I can arrange for this to happen. Have the line been upgraded already to 2Mb? The 1Mb will still be available, as there might be a few customers who can't get 2Mb speeds, depending on the quality of the line, etc.

Taking out a CAPPED / uncapped account from MWEB....................... R199
Asking what the cap is on that UNcapped service ............................ Free

Getting a nebulous answer that says NOTHING ................................ PRICELESS

Perhaps the script you copy and paste from needs an approximate update to reflect more honesty.

The quantum paid for such a service should be approximately comensurate with approximately the amount of data you COULD have aproximately consumed as percentage of the days approximately that you were throttled to an appproximate speed... :wtf:

If bandwith delivered by MWEB were litres of fuel ... well at the pump, you pay for R100 of the finest low sulphur diesel, the pump jockey would complain that the pipe is blocked because of all the driving you do and deliver you R12 worth, then advise you to come by in a few days to check his pipe is unblocked because nobody knows how long the blockage lasts ... and he may inform you that you have been driving YOUR car inappropriately to boot.

So let me get this straight - I'm on Mweb Premium 1Mb Uncapped. After line upgrades I will only be put onto a 2MB STANDARD uncapped? for R199? Trust me when I say I dont have an entitlement complex, but where is the benefit of this? I can reach my "uncapped" limit much quicker-70GB correct? Whereas my Limit on my current package in "Unofficially" at 100gb...

Saddens me that there is not a more attractive 2 Meg premium deal. Or that your 1Meg data premium prices would go down a smidgen. Instead its "pay the same or pay more".

Hi Pansyfaust

1MB Premium won't be automatically upgraded to Standard.

When your ADSL line speed gets an upgrade/if it gets upgraded in January, then you have the option to upgrade your package or not.

Upgrade to the 2Mbps 'Standard' package and try it out for a month, if you find yourself downloading more than 70GB per month,
Then downgrade your package to the 1Mbps 'Premium' package which allows you to download 100GB at half the speed.
Either way, you only pay R199 per month. Worth a try...

@ Mweb Guy

Any problem with the SMTP server?

smtp.mweb.co.za

Error 451, since yesterday, only happens now and then.

I get that, like I said, i'm not being a pissy entitled consumer, but when things are more of a side-grade than an upgrade then whats the point? Its a poor marketing strategy and this is why: I hazard that probably everybody on a PREMIUM 1 meg account already know that if we were to go on a 2meg standard account we would get throttled, simply because as premium users we easily per month would use over 70GB(I think at least)

My personal experience as our (Me + GF's) Monthly usage is roughly around 70GB at the moment, and we're not even trying. I am really not fussed about downloading the internet, I game, I DL, I browse. But the 2Meg standard uncapped product is quite useless to everyone who is on a premium 1meg account because it does not offer us anything but a side-grade compromise, not an upgrade: Higher speeds, lower gaming priority, lower threshold, same price.

When you have to make your entire 1 Meg premium product base engage in less than satisfactory side-grade compromises, it leaves a sour taste and an unfulfilled consumer experience with Mweb in general. I know people compromise in many purchases, but when UPGRADED line speeds = nothing of benefit for 1 meg premium users(nothing cheaper, higher threshold etc), the compromise is already seen in a negative light. Its either stay with what we have, or pay for more.

Even worse is that OTHER tiered Premium users get a benefit, not speed wise but prices have decreased for the other premium packages. From (I think)R589- R509 all incl for 2 meg premium account, which is great; yet 1 meg premium members get nothing of value with this upgrade, whereas other do.

@MWEB Guy- please discuss this issue, i"m not trolling at all, just want some discussion on the marketing strategy behind not offering anything substantially different to Premium 1 meg users? I understand that you cant make old 1 meg premium users 2 meg users for the same price (Although other ISP's have....for a different day) but, not even a reduction in price for 1 meg users seems a tad unfair?

I totally agree with you. I guess the other option is to wait to see what Afrihost will offer their 'Business' clients.

If their 2Mbps package turns out cheaper than Mweb's 'Premium' package, then I guess you can kiss Mweb goodbye.

At the moment, I think you should rather stick to your 1Mbps premium package, you do gaming and your limit will be 100GB before getting throttled.
