MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Hi
I just received my free FON enabled router from MWEB. Connected to the net, no problems. Can someone please provide direction on how to stream media via the USB port on the router? Called MWEB technical, they were cluless, spoke to a supervisor, even more clueless. From what I have gleaned from the net, it seems this model does stream, only question is how?

Thanks

Hi Indhran

I'm sure you can stream media via the USB. I can mail you the Router manual if you would like. PM me the email address for me to send it too.

We don't support this as it is outside of our support scope.

MwebGuy, I got my FON router today and got it all setup but twice now the blue upgrade light has flashed on for a min and then my net goes down and takes 3min to come back. Any idea on why it does that?

Edit: Just happend again and no the light is staying on.

I suspect it's just firmware upgrades and auto configuration being done over again on each reboot afterwards.

Mine did this for about 30 minutes or so on the first day.

International browsing poor this whole afternoon. Often fails to load web pages then recovers, just to repeat this pattern over and over.

Hi ChrisGeo

Is the blue light still flashing? This is when updates happening.

Its been like 2 hours already since I first installed the router and the light is still going on and the router restarts every few min.
Anyway I can disable this ?

Hi Future_Trader

There are no reported issues in the Centurion area. Is it only international that's the problem?

Im in centurion also having very poor international speeds.... ping is fine to EU around 200-230.. but only getting 40-50 kb/s download speeds huge lag spikes.. on a 4 mb line btw...

This shouldn't be happening. You could try to hard reset the router.

I shutdown my pc and restarted the router by pulling the cable and reinserting, left it alone for 20min and come back to the router but it was not connected to the internet so I guess it never finished the update. Is there anyway I can just disable this for now?

I can post the event logs if you wish
Theres a bunch of errors logged

Edit: When I refresh the event log page it just keeps generating more errors

Are you able to login to the router interface? Can you configure the router manually?

Hi, plug in the hard drive to the usb port. On a Windows computer, open "run" then type \\192.168.1.253 and enter. You now have access to the HDD over the WiFi. From a Mac open finder, click go, click connect to server, go to smb://192.168.1.253 PM me if you need help.

When I got the router I set it up with my account settings and our Wifi name and pass.
The settings aren't being reset, its the router itself.

For a minute it was staying up with the blue light on but soon restarted.
When I tried to check the logs it was cleared so I have no idea what is happening.

As I am typing this it just restarted itself and is now trying to update again.
Didn't mweb build in the option to stop the updates?

Also im not sure if this is the update server but "SNTP Unable to contact server 198.18.1.6:123' is in the event log just after a restart.

I have found that a factory reset helps with the Fon router. The reset option in the GUI seems to only be partial. Get a paperclip and press the reset button on the back of the Fon router for at least 10 seconds. The lights will switch off and back on. The power light will flash red for about 5 minutes and then the router will be ready for its remote configuration. Mine takes about another 5 minutes after that before it is ready for use.

Not sure if I held it there log enough but the settings did seem to reset. It put me on the mwebsetup account which didn't help. Blue light came on - Tries to update - Router restarts - Repeat.

Edit: Maybe that did fix it. If what I read on the logs is correct it was trying to update to 10.5.G.7. Just checked interface again and its on that update now. I did also change to my afrihost account so it could be that also. Will check in again if I have further problems.
Thanks Dawie
